Delayed Radiation Treatment

Options

I had a lumpectomy on Dec. 14, 2011, for a IDC, ER/PR+, HER2-, Oncotype 3.  Microscopic cells were found in two lymph nodes.  Due to a 4 week trip to Mexico for the month of February, I am not planning to begin radiation until March.

Does anyone know of the problems with waiting more than the usual 6 weeks to begin radiation?

Sadiesho - many of us who do chemo or have other procedures don't have radiation for a few months after surgery for a variety of reason.  If your RO is ok with it, I wouldn't worry about it.  Enjoy your month-long trip!

I was ready to start radiation on December 1 (2008), but due to the facility's holiday schedule, was told it would be better just to wait until January 1 (2009), so that there wouldn't be any gaps in my treatment plan.   It was a top notch facility & rad onc, so I trusted their judgment.  But I'd also had a mastectomy & chemo.

In your situation, I think I would ask the rad onc and maybe even ask for any research to back up his or her opinion.  It should be out there.

    Good luck!    Deanna
