Anyone with pancreatic cysts?

Last year was a rough year with too many doctor appts.  The stress and anxiety is too much some days......  I had an abdominal MRI done in November after an US had unclear findings.  My PCP waited until this week to call me with the findings as not to upset my Holiday.  Findings were liver cyst and pancreatic cyst which they want to rescan in 6 months.  Based upon my readings and my strong family hx of cancer and inability to WAIT --- I'm thinking of going to NY Presbyterian which has a pancreatic cyst center.  John Hopkins is my 2nd choice only due to much farther travel distance.  I'd rather do a biopsy now and possibly remove if it is cancerous then wait. So if anyone has some information to share about this condition I would appreciate it.  I really was hoping for a smoother year but I certainly seem unable to move on with my life,........

I have pancreatic cysts too.they think they were caused by gallbladder prob in2006. they saw on mri in 2006 but thought it was cyst on kidney the dr.s said just about everyone had those on kidney. 2009 I was involved in a boat accident and puctured lung when the Dr.s did ct & mri they told me I had Multiple cysts on my Pancreas I was like what! This was 7 months after masect to l breast. Long story short I had biopsy Drs said the one was like 2cm and wanted to do surgery to remove tail of pancreas and spleen. even though it is not cancer. also on liver. This was at Hopkins in Baltimore.Sorry story is not short! I said why are you going to remove spleen? Standard procedure. I said im not standard procedure no im not having surgery. I will definetly let Hopkins do Surgery if i fell i need to in the future but not now! I have 2 cyst on head of pancreas 2on body and 2 on tail. They cant prove they are cancerous and that is no little surgery! I have had these cysts since 2006 and still alive and kicking I am content with my decision.I would not get yourself in a frenzy about till you get all test results!

Over two years ago I had an MRI that showed cysts on my liver and pancreas.  They redid the MRI in six months, and there was zero change.  (They made have done it a third time, I have forgotten).

When I had a hysterectomy, I asked the onc/gyn to do a "fly by" to see what was going on with the pancreas and liver.  She said that if there was anything on the pancreas she would get the pancreatic cancer surgeon in the operating room while I was still on the table.

Everything was fine.  Don't panic yet.  Not all cysts are cancerous even in the pancreas and liver.

cp418 - just saw your post about the pancreatic cysts.  They found a cyst in my pancreas last year and I had a utrasound guided biopsy.  The doctor thought it would eventually turn into cancer but when they sent the biopsy for genetic testing they discovered that it was not cancerous bound and I don't even need any follow-up.  Yes, the whipple procedure on the pancreas is HUGE and it is no easy surgery.  I don't blame you for not doing it.  I would only do it if I was sure it was pancreatic cancer and then I'm still not sure I would.

tnhelen- thanks for response How are ya?would like to hear back from cp418 and motheroffoursons too! This is kinda therapeutic for me because i have never spoke to anyone who has same problem.I will be making appt. soon for once a year scans to check up on these pancreatic  cysts . I dug up information Multiple cysts of pancreas largest cyst was within tail 3.8 by3.5 cm may be pseudocysts or precancerous lesions called IPMNs (intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms) Hopkins also in a letter stressed that there is liklihood the cyst have cancer. but Biopsy came back benign. They really need to come up with better way of knowing.Hope we get some more posts on this subject.

Cp418: I had a CT scan after an ATV accident in 2006 that revealed a pancreatic cyst. I worried through 9 months of ultrasounds, follow-up Ct, and an MRI. No change and cancer was ruled out. Flash forward to my post BC surgery CT scan in May 2012....

I have several cysts on my liver, my pancreas, and one on my right ovary. In everything I've read during these last months....cysts are very common and tend to come and go.

I have a pelvic ultrasound tonight for the ovarian cyst and follow-up CT for the rest in two months. My two sisters, who both had hysterectomies in their 40's are advocating me to do the same......but I'm more comfortable with the "wait and see" approach knowing how common they are.

My father pancreatic cysts and had pancreatic surgery in NJ two years ago. The cysts were not cancerous and he is doing fine even at the age of 76. I would suggest you to do what you need to do - get it tested as soon as you can.Whatever the results are it would be better for you. If there's nothing to be alarmed of, then you will have peace of mind. If there is, you can get in traeted more quicly and therefore increase your chance for better results.

Have to have distal pancreatic surgery. The biggest cyst has gotten bigger:( End of this month but they have to call for date. Waited long enough not looking forward to it.

Thanks Krauscat....(i've had no internet for three days!  aghhh!  )  My MX surger was not nearly as bad as I had imagined it would be....not fun, no, but my not knowing was worse than the actual surgery! LOL

I will be having a DIEP surgery as soon as I can get it scheduled, was hoping for September but its looking like it will be in the Spring due to waiting lists and surgeon schedules.  Now THAT surgery is one that I expect to be much more physically difficult.....but rewarding too!

I know what you mean about not knowing what to expect. I had Reconstruction too but not DIEP. The same day of mastectomy on left plastic Surgeon came behind and put skin expander in I had 7 procedures. Counting lumpectomy all but 1 within. 1 year. Talk about some sore boo boos Lol:) Good you can rest till your Surgery.

I got my date! November 9th! Im so glad I won't have to wait until the spring! ....of course I'll probably start freaking out as it comes closer.

That's good you don't have to wait. How is weather in Ca. In November? Is Cucamonga south?

I think my surgery is going to be Sept. 5th have to wait to here back from surgeons office. I already had all my pre surgical tests done.

Right now it's hot in Cucamonga! November should be nice...in the 70's.....the biggest concern they are telling me is to stay away from situations where you could pick up a cold or the flu.....as that's the season for that. I may start wearing a mask out in public by mid October to be safe LOL!

Will you have another MRI or CT scan prior to surgery? Seems like a long time between your last test and the surgery? I'll be in your pocket on the 5th. Will you have to stay in the hospital overnight or go home?

Yes you will want to be careful with getting infections.I had CT in June the big cyst grew 1 and a half cent.in a yearand 4 months. It was slow growing till I had biopsy on it and drained. it filled back within a couple months. It is 5 in a half cent. Now. I will have to stay in hospital 7 to 10 days for distal pancreatic surgery . Where is spell check when I need it.

Don't ever have surgery wth a cold. My sister in law had ovarian surgery because it was emergency she had big tumour! She was put on life support because she had pneumonia real bad!

Well I'm back! Had my distal wanted to preserve spleen but surgeon had to remove due to blood loss.But that's ok I am glad it is over! Had surgery on Sept 6th came home on 13th. VERY ROUGH But on my way to recovery.Johns Hopkins teams were wonderful and took very good care of me.

Krauscat, how are you doing now? I was searching the site as I was told I have a pancreatic cyst about 6 mm, and she wants to wait and to a CT in 6 months to see if it grows. Since I had IDC in a lymph node as well, of course there is concern of it being cancerous. But many years ago before my dx, I was told I had a liver cyst, but I was told it was nothing to worry about...now this, it's scary, so I'm just reading up on it all and seeing what my options are. I hope you have recovered by now.
