Could this really be cancer?

Options

Ok here is my story and it's odd. I have had a sore throat for a month now. I went to an ENT and she asked me where it hurt and she said I pointed to the same spot as the last time I was there 6 months ago, so she thought i should get my tonsils out. She said it would end the problem of sore throat and eliminate it if it's cancer. This is very alarming to me. I am still doing reconstruction with at least one more surgery to go. I had a bmx and chemo and one lymph node removed that was clear. She gave me pennicillan and duflucan hoping that it was a fungus and maybe 10 days of med would get rid of it. I did get thrush on my tongue and throat all through chemo. I also tend to get sore throats from GURD. But I have been taking protonix for that but i did have two alcoholic drinks 2 weeks after surgery and this started the monring after the second drink. 6 months ago when I saw here i had something that was pretty much gone and she could not see it, but it started 1 week after surgery and lasted aobut 3 weeks. This time it started two weeks after surgery, i had taken a raod trip from KC to NYC and after we were there a week this started WHile in NYC i was running aorund a lot visiting, taking subways and up late at night. maybe i jsut did too much too soon. I don't know. Should i take the tonsils out?

Carol, only you can make that decision but I can say that if you are prone to sore throats, taking your tonsils will help. You can still get a sore throat but the infected throats should almost disappear.

Hi Carrol2, just wishing you well.

Maybe a second opinion? Would a scan show anything?

    Saying a prayer for you.

Carrol, I can't begin to comment on the medical necessity, but I can tell you from having had my tonsils out as a young adult, that's it's not an easy surgery.  Kids don't seem to have a bad time with it, but many adults do.  Of course, if it must be done to ensure your immune system is working properly and not constantly fighting a throat infection, then you may not have a choice.  But I wouldn't encourage you or anyone to go into it lightly.  It's a much bigger surgery for adults.  I think getting a second opinion is an excellent idea.  I would personally also scour the internet for natural remedies, to see if anything you're eating or not eating or anything in the way of supplements might help.  If you're so inclined, an integrative doctor or naturopathic doctor might also be able to figure out why you're getting frequent infections.    JMHO... Probably just a sore throat - but don't take chances - your immune system is down so it's probably easy to "catch" things. GET a SECOND OPINION. I didn't think they did the tonsilectomies like they did when we were kids.

Tanks for the feedback. I have only been on the meds for a day and a half and somehow feel a little better. The pain is not as sharp and not localized to that one spot anymore. It now just feels very dry and and makes me cough a dry cough. The thought it could be yeast I am thinking it might be that. So maybe the diflucan will help. I am staying away from dairy during chemo i learned that  can aggravate thrush and I ahve been drinking a ton of hot chocolate. So i switched to chamomile tea or caffeine free diet coke. Making some oatmeal insteaed of cold cerea with milk for breakfast. I relaly hope this works.
