Getting financial help

Options

Let's have more information on how breast cancer patients can get financial help locally like rides to doctors and treatments money for day to day living if needed and compression garments parking at hopsital and help with the long term side effects of cancer treatment and the financial toll it takes on everyone especially women who had no insurance or are sole supporters, mental health counseling for uninsured women. Therapy is so much less toxic then antidepressants. We need more financial resources for women who are in need no matter what their backgrounds are. Sure they get threw surgery chemotherapy radiation hormone therapy prescription medications and then there is no follow up after they survive they need help cleaning up the mess. What good is it if they lose their abiltity to work, and a place to live and life as they know it.

this organization provides free flights to patients going to dr appt/procedures. helps if you are near to major city. we often flew in lear jet alone, as the  planes were traveling back to pick up corporate people. they wouldn't clear me for flying after sx-can't fly with drains they said. so had to take train back home

I just googled "financial help cancer patients" and got 20,000,000 hits!

First hit: The National Cancer Institute's database of resources. (there's even a section for "practical needs" like paying the mortgage.)

I'm sure it would be helpful to get recommendations from people who have used specific resources but in the meantime, these might be a place to start.

The American Cancer Society will help with grants and getting you set up locally with people that can help you , if you call the 800 number you can set up rides to any Doctor appointment, I used them to go to chemo , labs , follow up appointments etc..1800-227-2345. The American Cancer Society was a total life saver...

The Patient Resource Breast Cancer Guide has pages in the back of financial resources with contact info.  You can get a free copy by emailing prp@patientresource.net or calling 1 816 333-3595.
