Merilee:  Let's hope that the moderators will take this and give us the help we need to make it work. It needs to be organized and a special letter that says what needs to be said should be posted.  If the mods don't take part in this, I hope we will not allow it to just fade away.  Washington can ignore a few letters here and there on a problem but when they get swamped on a "special day" with hundreds of letters especially during an election year, we may have some hope of getting their attention.  If WE sit back and wait for someone else to resolve this terrible healthcare problem in our country, it will never be done.  WE must make a decision to take charge of it ourselves and let Washington know we won't continue to accept this healthcare insurance problem in our country. 

My prayer every day and night is "Please God help me to always be able to find "affordable" health insurance for my daughter".  But I then remember God helps those who help themselves and I end up sending more letters to Washington.  But this is not a problem "one" person can fix.  We must join together to get their attention!  Mods:  Can you, will you help us??

Medigal- Why don't you draft a letter  for  proposed use and we will present it to the Mods and get their feedback and possibly the support we are needing to make a mass mailing. There are 100,000 of us on these boards, if we could even get 1/10 of the ladies to send a letter on the same day it would be enough to get some attention and also bring attention to Breastcaner.org. That would be a win/win if all the letters had  a personal signature followed by Member of Breastcancer.org. And I know most of us hate pink but we could use it on the envelopes to make it easy for the whitehouse to see that all the letters are from breast cancer survivors.

Merilee:  I would not be the best one to draft the kind of letter you want because you are aiming at mainly bringing attention to helping breast cancer survivors.  This problem, imo, goes far beyond just bringing attention  to bc ladies.  What about the millions of other people who are just as desperate for affordable medical insurance.  If the ladies in such huge numbers were willing to make the letter about "all" Americans who need the help, I would be inclined to support it more.  You see I am fighting my battle for my DD who is just as desperate for medical insurance (since she was fired from her job) as anyone with bc.  However, my letters I send for her cause always includes ALL the people who need affordable health insurance.   If you want it to be singled out for bc sufferers then I think the mods should come up with a letter on our behalf which we could copy and mail out letting Washington know that things have gotten so bad that the Mods of our website are trying to help us with this dire problem.  I, personally, could not come up with a letter not including my DD and others like her who are suffering just as badly as bc survivors.  This problem goes beyond bc, imo.   If they even just deleted the "6 month" clause out of the PCIP Bill that would allow us to find health coverage through our own individual states.  It's not cheap but it is coverage.

I agree with everything you just said. I do think however that as a group we can make a statement that will get noticed, because we are so large of a group, and also bring light to the fact that people are not able to get help when also trying to deal with life threatening illnesses. We are just one group (2,5 million survivors). I can only imagine how many others are dealing with the same thing.

IMO any mass letter should include the horrific stats 240,000 new cases in the US, in 2011, a demand that something be done to find the source like any other epidemic, and a pitch for an exemption for pre-existing conditions (before 2014 which is the proposed date for it to change). Some ladies do not have 2 years, especially our sisters in stage IV.

IMO no one with a life threatening condition should go without medical care in a country where we think we can afford stupid things like to send a fricking probe to mars using tax payer's money. What the H@#$ is wrong with our priorities in this country?

I think we need a new thread for the topic of a letter to Washington, I will start one so this one can stay on topic.

Sorry for my rant above by the way, I'm just disgusted that an epidemic of food poisoning gets more attention from the center for disease control than an epedemic of  breast cancer. ok-done

I agree .   40 million people with no insurance is very sad.   And people say, "oh, they need to be responsible"...well, I work with people who work hard full-time and have declined our health care plan because they can't afford it.   The stereotype of the slacker with no health insurance needs to change.   It no longer holds true for most people.

And yes, I think all diseases should be included, not just BC.
