I was 42 at diagnosis. Premenopausal. When I started taking Zometa and was told I would need to take it for two years. Because of my age, at the two year mark, my doc said I should stay on the shot for another 1-3 years. My doc said there were no tests to definitively say I was or was not in menopause and that if I were to stop taking Zometa, he would need to wait two years to make sure my menstrual period didnt 'break through'. I hated taking the shot, I did not want to wait two years. I did not want to worry about the estrogen in my body as I'd had 100%ER and 100%PR+ cancer. So I had a bilateral oopharectomy. The Zometa put me in menopause, the oopharectomy sealed the deal. I did it more for peace of mind and the ability to stop going to the doctors office once a frigging month. Cheers Zometa, thanks for helping me out! Now, to simplify my treatment options, and have longer breaks between doctors appointments.

Bumping this up - anyone else out there taking Zoladex? I get my first shot in just over a week. I have already started the tamoxifen.

swellrider - I thought I had commented on this thread previously, but I can't find it. I am in my 11th month of Zoladex injections. I have been on tamoxifen for the same amount of time, and get a Zometa infusion every 6 months (I've had 2 so far). I see that your post was 11/9. Did you get your first shot yet?

Hi. This isn't a popular treatment, but I had a question - hoping someone out there knows: what if your zoladex shot site is still painful 4 hours later, and it looks like the pellet is trying to come back out your skin?

It's Friday night, and I don't want to go to the ER, but doctor's office is very much closed and won't be open til Monday morning.

Edit: Well it's the next morning, and the pain has stopped. Looks like I'm not bleeding internally, so I guess I'll live, for now, anyway.
