My Gran, but My Gramps

Hi there,

I'm hoping to get some information to help my Gramps.  My Gran had breast cancer (thought they said Stage 4!) in '98. Had a left side mastectomy in '99. She was on Tamoxifen for 5 years and was cleared until the beginning of this year, when she was getting really really dizzy...had abx for an ear infection. When that didn't work, they diagnosed her with vertigo and was sent for a cat scan where they found 2 lesions (I think that's what they were) on her skull. They removed those this summer and found no cancer anywhere else after lots of bone scans/blood scans.

So this time, she was on Tamoxifen again and got brutal pain in her left (the non-artificial one) knee. She thought she'd broken it. She stopped taking the tamox. and it got better. She's decided that she doesn't want to take it if she would have to be confined to a chair for the rest of her life. (she's 80)

She was told that the cancer WOULD come back, 100%, so doc said she should really be on it. Gramps is freaked out because he doesn't want to lose her.  He wants her to listen to this doc who insists she stay on the Tamox.  He's upset that she's going on the "damn internet" and finding side effects she then takes on. (his words)

So I'm wondering if anyone knows of any alternatives for Tamox that have less bone-type side effects and if you know of any breast cancer support resources (even a support system for Gramps) online that I can show to Gramps as legit and not crazy wild wild west internet bs.

I love them both so much.  They're still crazy in love - just celebrated their 58th anniversary.  He's got macular degeneration and is hard of hearing and that also worries him.  I'm trying to find out ways to help him with that - he's a stubborn bloke.

Thank you so much!!
