Hi

My mother just started Abraxane+carboplatin+Herceptin yesterday. Today she is having severe joint pains especially in the knees. and its much more painful than during the previous treatment.  The doctor prescribed pain killers and asked to walk to exercise....So far its not helped much. Do you know of any other way the pain can be reduced? massage, acupunture etc?

Any advice is beneficial..thank you.

regards

hope

P.S How do update my signature to include the second diagnosis along with first? This time I manually edited...if I update my diagnosis in my account, only the current one is displayed.

Hi Hope...I am sorry your mom is experiencing joint pain. When I went through chemo and had bad joint pain I did acupuncture. I did 5 sessions but by the 3rd session I felt better and by the 4th session I was completely pain free. Also, during treatment I slept with my legs elevated ..I dont know if that worked but the Acupuncture is definitely worth doing!

    Good luck!

You may want to check out the section on breastcancer.org on Bone and Joint Pain, which discusses various methods to reduce bone and joint pain.

    We hope this helps.
