PET Scan

I was diagnosed with HER2/neu positive breast cancer at the age of 35.  I underwent a mastectomy and chemotheropy.  I later had the other breast removed and reconstruction done.  My diagnosis was in June of 2010.  Then just last month the doctor didn't like what he saw on a vaginal ultrasound.  I ended up having a hysterectomy.  Everything checked out ok.  This makes me quite nervous though.  Is it routine for your doctor to perform a PET scan to make sure everything else is ok?

Hi there Heduell, As I understand , most Oncologists dont order PET or PET/CTs as a routine. Its normally to check as a result of symptoms you may experience. Often those with advanced cancer may have them in response to tracking effectiveness of meds and progression or regression of disease.  I had one awhile ago due to some issues found in my lungs. Its a more definitive test than some others.

Did you have a endometrial biopsy before the hysterectomy that caused the surgery? normally that would follow a suspicious vaginal ultrasound.
