Our original Thanksgiving plans fell thru - 14 of us had planned to go to Savannah to spend Thanksgiving week-end with DD #1 and her family but we had to drop out one family, then 2 so it was called off. Hugh disappointment to DD# 3. The week-end before Christmas I am having around 30 at my home for a very sad reason. My youngest brother (64) passed away Nov 1, his SO about 100 miles away, arranged for cremation and no memorial service. The obit in her home town identified her as a surviving wife, her son a step-son and her parents as his in-laws. I had to arrange for another obit in our local papers. His daughter, my only niece, deserved better than that so a family dinner for daughter,brother,sister,ex-wife,ex-in-laws and cousins is planned. as a private memorial service.Fortunately my 3 daughters and most of their families will be able to attend.

Then the next week is Christmas and most of those mentioned will be here again but fortunately for my housekeeping, cooking, etc. only 5 will be overnight guests for 2 or 3 nights. Complications : cataract surgery for me on the 21st and then again in January. After that I hope to talk hubby into driving to Florida for several weeks in our small motor-home.  Actually I'll be driving because his Alzheimers is progressing and I don't feel good about his driving.. I apologize for so much information but all this consumes my thoughts about getting ready for the holidays.

I'm having the entire family over for Thanksgiving, then my boyfriend's children will be coming for dessert.  They do dinner with their Mom, as they should.

This is a funny Thanksgiving story:  My DS decided last year that he was going to raise a turkey for our Thanksgiving dinner this year.  He purchased two turkeys and some chickens, built a coop for them that rivals the Taj Mahal, and they eat very well..only the best.  Well...the closer we got to Thanksgiving the less interested DS was to volunteer the turkey.  Seems the turkey has developed its own personality and is now a cherished member of the family, so she was pardoned, for this year anyway!  BTW...she is laying eggs just like the chickens, and he says they are good, so all is not lost.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I am the bringer of appetizers for Thanksgiving:    Lamb meatballs, grape leaves, tziki, hummus, cheese, olives, pita chips for dipping.   There will be a total of 10 --- 3 are children under 3 years old...    Not sure what is going for Christmas as son just bought a new house and will move in Nov 28 or 29.
