Cancer-all kinds- BLOWS!!!
I hope it is ok to post here as this post isn't just about BC.
I was angry, at 37 a relatively young age, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since surgery and treatment, I have met two other women, both 35 and underm diagnosed with huge tumors and Stage III BC. A woman I met at chemo who is 45 and has a young child the same age as mine who had a recuurance to her brain while on Herceptin....... It just goes on and on......
My active treament is done. Had my first follow-up with the onc today, all is great, and I took my first tamoxifen pill today. I felt pretty good about life in general, and then I checked my phone messages....
My husband's brother was just diagnosed with very rare gladular cancer that has spread to pancreas, liver and gall bladder. He went into the ER on Sunday with massive pain in his back and stomach. From where he was, they airlifted him to a major med center in Denver. He and my sister and mother in law fly from Denver straight to Dana Faber on Thursday morning. His liver has so many tumors it is barelt functioning. He is very, very sick.
I can't stop crying. Cancer has robbed me of alot in my life, but my chances of a bright future are pretty good. This man has three children who need him. Our whole family is a wreck.
He is only 33 years old.
Cancer BLOWS!!!!

I am so sorry for your news. It does suck, and we know it more than most. Hang in there. Hugs from here too! Ruth

Couldn't have said it better myself. Strength, love and prayers to you, your BIL, and your family.

I am very sad to read this devastating news. All I can do is pray that your BIL can be treated and that he and all the family get the comfort and support that you all need.
Cancer destroys so many innocent people's lives. We need a cure already.
God bless. -
Our family has had too much sadness- and freakin cancer- this year. I had an awful time with chemo, and was very sick during that time. But it was not the cancer that made me sick, it was the chemo. In my BIL's case, his cancer has made him so sick, and he hasn't even had chemo yet. Needless to say, we are devestated. Thank you for your support ladies.......it is just so hard to understand this.

misswim....So sorry,,,It sure seems that more and more younger people are fine one day and having to deal with cancer the next!..I do not remember that my parents had so many freinds and acquantances being slammed with all kinds of cancer as compared to how many people I know and know about in my small world, way too many....Recently one of my sister's best freinds found out he had cancer and passed away about 3 months later, his wife, also a good freind was at the funeral business making arangements and had a heart attack while there, so it turned out to be a double funeral...These two were in their early 60's...What the crap is going on?

Dear MissWim,
I am so sorry to hear about your BIL and all the things you had to go through. Life just doesn't make sense when we hear things like this. This year, my good friend and I were both diagnosed with cancer within 3 months of one another and I continue to feel a sense of guilt about it. Mine was caught early (DCIS with BMX) and she has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is now in hospice care. I'm angry; she wasn't given a fighting chance like me and it tears me up inside.
Sending you and your family many thoughts and prayers.......T

Thanks ladies for all the good wishes! They won't be flying him in until tomorrow, due to f*&%ing insurance issues! He needs to start chemo YESTERDAY. I am glad I have been through it and hope I can be some sort of support in that regard............. but he is so sick and in so much pain already- I can't imagine what the chemo will do. It's so unfair and sad.........
-
It seems that you will be a huge resource and help to your BIL. We always wonder why we've had to go though BC, maybe for you it was so you could be that guiding angel that can best help your BIL. Continuing to pray for you and your family.
-
It certainly does blow!! I'm so sorry that you have had so much cancer in your family. Hang in there and know you are not alone.
-
I agree with survivor......
-
misswim, thinking of you!

Chemo is a scary thing, and I hope I can ease his fears about it. Being in your thirties with cancer is a unique situation, and I can help with that aspect. But I was never sick from my well contained cancer, just the treatment for cells that couldn't even be seen. I cannot imagine being carpet bombed with chemo as sick as he is right now. My DJ was beside himself, cried his eyes out last night. We were all celebrating my chemo being over, clean scans and we haven't had but three weeks of peace. I hate this stupid, ugly disease.
-
So sorry for your family misswim. I hope that your BIL can start chemo very soon. Thinking of you.

Cancer blows ass!!!!!!!!!!

Update on the BIL..... we have been fighting with insurance as Dana Farber is not in network. He is being flown in to Dartmouth Hitchcock's Cancer Center today. They at least work with DF and will be able to either get him transferred there or work with them on his treatment. He spiked a fever yesterday, WBC through the roof. The tumors on his liver are 8 cm, 6 cm, and 4 cm with littler tumors everywhere. This is NOT good.......... They are talking liver transplant for his survival, after being carpet bombed with chemo. This is so hard. Chemo was awful for me, but it is over. I'm NED. My hair is growing back, I have my energy (a little anyway). I never thought I wouldn't survive my BC, but I knew I had a fight ahead of me. I did it. He's so sick, how is he going to handle the treatments? This truly is a life and death situation (not that all cancer isn't) and it is just heartbreaking.
I can't thank you enough for all of your support.
-
Wow, what a terrible time your family is having. I'm so sorry for all of you. I hope you will be able to be a voice of courage and encouragment for him. I really think the environment is causing a lot of this cancer, since it is hitting us way too young. I sure wish we knew more about what was causing it. Sending up prayers for you all.
-
misswim - I am sorry to hear about your BIL. I do hope he can survive with the chemo. Maybe they can do some special nutrition for him. That would be important. (((hugs to you))) during this trying time. Best wishes.
-
misswim - I am sorry you and your family are having to deal with this. A few years ago a dear friend of mine was dx with colon cancer which had spread to her ovaries, liver, abdominal wall, etc... One of the treatments she did was HIPEC, which stands for Heated Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy, a procedure used to treat advanced abdominal cancers, which resulted in her being NED for a good amount of time. I don't know if this would help your brother-in-law or not but wanted to share this treatment with you.
Best wishes.
-
So sorry for you, and your family. I'm a patient at Dana Farber, and they are fabulous - also I have a lot of friends who have gone to Dartmouth Hitchcock and loved it too One woman who wasn't strong enough to get to Boston also had her DHCC docs working with DF. They have such a good relationship, I hope it will be of some comfort knowing your BIL is getting, quite literally, the best treatment available, probably in the world.
-
DHCC is my main onc; I have an onc at DF too but I will only see her twice a year. I am glad he will be in good hands. It is just so sad. I can't believe this is happening...... we had a three week break from the chemo stress...... Everyone is concerned about him tolerating treatment, but I think being someone who has gone through DD ACT, ass kicking chermo, I know how hard chemo is and I can't bear that he has to do this. However, his chances of survival are NIL without it. Thanks so much for the support.
-
Hoping things are looking better for your BIL.
-
He is here. They are working on getting him stable enough to treat. Hubby visited today. Very hard to bear for the whole family. I am so angry at cancer. I will be heading up for an onc visit on Tues, and will visit then. Praying.
