Thank you all!

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you that had mastecomies with no reconstruction and post here. I didn't have rads or chemo, so I don't fit in there with my cancer. But I  did have a BMX with /node dissection and no reconstruction, so I feel like this is a little home in my world.

Thank you all for you help, care and concern!

    Hi mycinnamon,

Sorry I took so long to respond. I agree, too. It's great to have a community of women who have made the same choice not to have reconstruction, so we can share information and concerns.

Hear! Hear!!  or is that Here! Here!!  At any rate, I agree wholeheartedly!  I am so glad that I have been able to get support from everyone here.  I want to share a special thank you to Barbara, whose website and email response reassured me about the various issues I would face after my umx without recon.

I am happy to report that I, too, am very happy with my decision...

     So...Thank you, from me, too.

CLC, may I ask why you chose not to have any recon? And why you've declined Tamoxifen. My doc has suggested a umx. I'm all over the place as to if or what kind of recon I want. I am leaning towards an implant if I do anything. I'm just so unsure. I haven't done my research yet on the hormone therapy she has also suggested. I'm assuming that is the Tamoxifen? I know there are risks from taking it, I think increased risk of uterine ca is one, and other side effects I'm sure. Any insight is appreciated.

    chrisillini-

You may want to reach out to Whippetmom on the boards about implant decisions. She helps alot of women here. As far as the other kinds of reconstructions...research here. There are pro's and con's to all reconstructions whether implant, or reconstruction using your own tissue. I did not have the benefit of research or this site when deciding. I would definitely have made different decisions had I had the tools. Also, the right surgical team is of paramount importance. Have a few consults and get second or third opinions. It's worth it and you will be glad you did. I had implants asnd sometimes wish I did not reconstruct.

    Best wishes.
