Any opinions on Beth Israel in Boston?

Hi,

I'm wondering if anybody has had experiences, good or bad, with Beth Israel in Boston for breast care.  My doctor is referring me "anywhere I choose" for a second opinion/second look.  I had a very clean 3d mammogram at MGH and a normal breast exam with a nurse practitioner there.  My symptom is about one year of spontaneous unilateral nipple discharge, which both my doctor and I know is not usually a sign of cancer.  (Edit!  I mean to say, discharge is sometimes but not often cancer.) The sticking point is that my aunt had breast cancer (and died of either breast or colon cancer, as the colon cancer showed up about a year or so after her mastectomy.)  I remember her talking about the doctor finding her lump and laughing and laughing because he'd asked, "How did you not know this was here?" and she'd told him to kindly stop making her feel bad about not taking a lover. But then she also told me that two years before they found the lump, she'd had leaking from her breast.  It was thought to be nothing.  She said it as a regret and a cautionary tale, and maybe as an apology for never doing self-breast-exams. At any rate, now that I have discharge from one of my breasts, I don't want to ignore her experience.  Obviously we are different people, but still, it gives me pause.

I'd like to see what a breast specialist has to say, although I don't even know what type of doctor to see.  Breast Surgeon? Oncologist? Is a Breast Specialist something different altogether? Yikes.

Any information would be appreciated.  Thanks very much!
