Found a lump-scared out of my mind!

I have the app't with my bs on Monday to go over all the particulars of my bc. I will learn which receptors I have. I have my list of questions to ask, but should I request an MRI to make sure that there isn't bc in other areas of the breast that were too small to be seen on mammogram or us? I really prefer to do this surgery only once.
-
Usually, at least in my case and some others I know of, they order a bone and cat scan to make sure that the cancer hasn't spread to any other parts of the body.
-
Kaara, I had a breast MRI before surgery, just to be sure. Ask your BS about it on Monday. It's not a very comfortable test, but worth doing.

Hello. The US showed the lump to be a liquid-filled cyst. The radiologist said I did not need to worry about it. I will push to see a bs. The cyst is 3 o'clock to the nipple and under the aereola.
I have had a liquid cyst drained on my leg before -- and redrained -- and redrained, until the dr finally opened the skin and removed the sac that kept filling up. I do not want to go through these procedures again. Just remove the sac!

Colette- I would def push to see a BS, as i have said before without a biopsy they dont know for sure, I found that out with what my daughter went through. It is probably nothing but a cyst but you need to be sure.
Best Wishes
Debbie

colette51: Yes, good news about the US outcome, but I would want it taken out for sure.

Hi everyone! Like Amy_33 I have been scared out of my mind. I found a lump in my breast a little over a month ago. I went to my regular check-up last Friday, where my doctor wanted me to schedule a mammogram. I have one scheduled Tuesday, 11/22/11. I hate the waiting. The not knowing is driving me crazy.
I am only 36 years old and have a 2 year old. I am glad I came upon this discussion. Everyone seems so supportive. I do have some support from my family, but it is nice to be able to talk to women who are going through or has gone through the same thing I am.
-
rwilburn: It is probably just a cyst, but you want to be proactive and get all the tests to make sure. Most (80%) turn out to be nothing, so you have the percentages on your side.
Wishing you a positive outcome!
-
rwilburn, wishing you luck on your mammogram next Tuesday. Like Kaara said, it's more likely to be benign then cancer. I'll be thinking of you. Let us know what you find out.
Kaara, hope you are doing O.K!
colette51, glad to hear they believe it's just a cyst. I do agree with everyone that you should push to have it removed anyway, and have it biopsied so you know for certain.
Hugs to all,
Sandi

Kaara: Thank you! I am trying my best to stay positive. I keep telling myself that the good lord will not give me anything I can not handle. I am just so glad I found this site. It is helping me get through the waiting. Again, thank you for your kind words. I am so sorry to hear that you was diagnosed with this terrible disease...my thoughts and prayers are with you!
-
Panmars: Thank you! I will keep you guys posted!

The GYN's office called today to say "the diagnostic mammo & us are normal." Well, a fluid-filled cyst is not normal to me. The office is supposed to send me the name of a bs associated with Womens Hospital of Houston.
(Excuse me if I am repeating myself) About 35 yrs ago I had a fluid-filled cyst on the front of my LEG. A needle was used at least 3 times to take out the fluid. When the sac filled up a 4th time, I scheduled surgery to have that sac removed. The same goes for this cyst. I am not waiting to "aspirate(?)" the cyst 3 times. I am 60 yrs young, and feel the sac should be removed.
Since some of you have been through this, would you do the same or just "let sleeping dogs lie?"

I pushed for the diagnostic mammo & us ASAP, and was able to be scheduled the next morning.
But then I just looked at the calendar. It is only 3 days before the scheduled test. THINK POSITIVE!!
-
colette: some cysts do indeed keep filling up, but others don't. Are you on HRT? Because that tends to increase the likelihood of cysts.
I don't think you should have the cyst removed -- aspiration will probably be sufficient. If it comes back, that's another thing, but at this time aspiration is the way to go.
-
Hope everything goes well for you colette, big cyber hugs!
-
Yes, I am on HRT. Have been for 12 yrs. Will talk to the bs about aspiration 1st. It was a "pain" (figuratively) when the cyst on my leg kept refilling.
I know what I am talking about is no where near bc and what many of you have gone through.
Thanks for listening and advising, Cyber-path and debbie6122.

Good morning everyone! Well I had my mammogram yesterday. I still don't know anything, but I am more scared then I was before I went. I went because I found a lump in my left breast, but apparently the mammo showed something in my right breast also. The tech did the mammo on both breast, asked me to have a seat. She then went and talked to the doc, came back took more of my right and again asked me to have a seat. She went and talked to the doc and came back once again and took more of my right. After that I was done. I was like "i came in for my left and now you have me worried about my right...GREAT"!
I have an appointment with my OB this morning (for another issue). I am hoping he has my results from my mammo so he can tell me something. If I have to get a US, I would like to do it today. It would be nice if I knew something before the Holiday weekend. Like I said before, I hate the waiting and not knowing!!!
-
rwilburn: I know what you're going through. It's a long journey to get your results, just remember, 80% of the time they turn out to be nothing. It's good that the radiologists err on the side of caution many times. Mine could have easily brushed mine off for another six months, but he wanted further evaluation and it turned out to be a very early stage bc, but very treatable. This is why we have our mammograms every year.
I wish you the best positive outcome! Enjoy your Thanksgiving and try not to worry.
