What exactly does variant of uncertain significance mean? When I called the BRCA testing co., they said they are 99% sure that it's a genetic mutation. Is this in fact true? I've read other older posts that other medical experts like Dr. Susan Love say there could be enviromental factors that affected the gene. Does anyone have any current info. on this. It was bad enough having BC, but I find it so challenging to be BRCA2+

Also, if a BRCA2 dx worse than a BRCA1? Maybe what I'm really asking is if  there any long-lived BRCA2 folks out there who can quell my fears?

I also had "unnknown variants" in my report. Three years later I received a follow up letter stating that the "unknown variant" that I possess is not a factor in breast cancer. This only means they don't know what a certain result means yet.

As it happens, the rest of my report was negative so I was not BRCA positive.

    Hope this helps,

My genetic testing was BRCA2 positive and also "variant of uncertain significance".  I had my testing done in July 2011.  They also tested my mother and father.  I inherited the gene from my father.  My daughter (age 35) had genetic testing done two months ago and she also carries the BRCA2 gene and "variant of uncertain significance".  My breast surgeon is now monitoring my daughter with MRI testing annually.
