Negative fine needle biopsy for skin mets?

Options

Hi everyone, a couple weeks ago I noticed that a nodule which had come up on my contralateral reconstructed mound had changed slightly turning more pink and growing in width.  I initially discovered it in Aug after finishing my chemo the month before.  When mentioning it to a friend, she encouraged me to have it checked out.  I spoke with my PCP who coul not identify it, and she suggested I call my onc.  Since I was scheduled for my first chemo follow-up the next week (today), she said she would look at it then.  In the meantime, I had an appt with my PS who did not hesitate to say it needed to be removed and biopsied, and that she would do that when she tattos my new nipple (go, girls!) in a couple of weeks.

My onc looked at it today...the expression on her face was not expected for her or me.  She said she thought this was going to be easy, but she was inclined to think it was cancer and that is what skin mets looks like.

She then immediately referred me to my breast surgeon who also did not like the way it looked.  He did a FNA (fine needle aspiration), and the results came back negative for malignancy.  (BIG sigh of relief), BUT that my PS should go ahead and remove it for further evaluation.  What?!  So, I am wondering, how many of you experienced false negative results from a FNA?

Also, I am keeping an eye on 3 spots on my ribs (2 in back, 1 in front).  I was told if the pain persists then I will have to get a bone scan.  The pain in each spot feels like a really bad bruise and then aches every now and then, especially after I sit back and hit those spots or they are pressed on.  My chiropractor is sure it is not muscular as related to the back but could be mets or irritation of the intercostal muscles between the ribs.

Could I really have recurrence this soon after chemo?  I know my cancer was very aggressive, but what are the chances?

Thank you all for your responses.  This is my first post although I have read and been encouraged by others by reading the discussions.  You are all such strong, amazing woman.

By the way, I just turned 37 this week.  What a year to celebrate!  God is still good and faithful and always will be!
