When do you get your energy back after radiation?

I had a lumpectomy and  then just finished 33 rads tx last Fri.  (Add to that fractured the lower orbit of my eye after lumpectomy and taking Vicoden which I was not used to and doing a swan dive down the stairs requiring more surgery 2 weeks later and losing my job, my office closed (which started the whole thing, I went to the Dr before my insurance ran out and he diagnosed BC) and moving all within 3 month span, not whining just trying to explain)  Sometimes I'm OK but I usually aim to accomplish one Mission a day. Today was straighten out the insurance and get my headlight fixed.  Sometimes I sleep a lot. 16 hours. Yesterday I made a  new resume.  When do you get your energy back?

Thank you.

Wow, you've got so much happening! I'm sorry for all you've been through, the eye thing sounds painful!

I found that I rebounded after radiation pretty quickly, about 5-7 days. It really does tire you out, it was harder for me than chemo, at least in terms of exaustion. Make sure you let yourself get lots of rest, you will get your energy back.

Big hugs Bedo .. you sure have been through the wringer.

Regarding getting your energy back after rads, it took me awhile ... I'd say about 2 months total to be back to normal and feeling good again.

Hope you get your energy back quickly.

    Hi ladies....

I would say it took me three weeks before I felt a major energy boost.  I attribute this to the lavender-chocolate macaroons I ate.  I mean I was out cycling and doing normal items, but I did need a lot more sleep.

    But this comes in stages.....

    1. From end of radiation to first major energy boost.....about three + weeks.
    2. Then a period of rapidly coming up the energy curve.....about another month.
    3. To the point I had full lung capacity (some of this was chemo).  Another four months.
    4. To full energy.......another four months.

If I hadn't been cycling, I wouldn't have noticed the "full lung capacity" stage.  At the two months post radiation, I was about at 95%.  Not a major problem, but I didn't have my edge.  That took about ten months from the end of radiation.

I spent a long time needing about ten hours sleep......and got it.  Otherwise, life was quite normal, and I was able to keep up with cycling and skiing.  I do think exercise helps, because you get deeper sleep and wake up more refreshed.

Good luck.....you will all get there. - Claire

Bedo, Anyone would be tired dealing with all the things you are going through.  Be gentle with yourself, please.  I finished rads almost two months ago and I still get tired easily.  I start a project full of energy and then about halfway through, I wish I had not started doing anything.  I need to sleep at least nine hours every night or I am useless the next day.

I have less energy now, 2 months post RADs, than I did during RADs. I can sleep 12-14hours a days if I let myself. A couple days a week I let myself. Could be the Tamoxifen? for me anyway. Or just trying to get back on track with my life. Trying to put some fun back into my life. I'll go for a 6-7 mile run, but then I'll have to take a nap afterwards. During RADs it was no problem. I'm getting tired just typing about this.....

It took me about a year.  Yes, a year.  I gradually felt better during the day (few months) but I couldn't stay awake beyone 7 ot 8pm until a year later.  I kept thinkig something else was wrong with me.  I really think it was just healing from major surgery, rads, and taking care of 4 kids.  Very frustrating.  Congrats on finishing your rads!

I finished rads over four months ago.  I find that I now have enough energy to get through an average day without feeling tired, but a day with extra activity like putting away Christmas decorations or preparing a holiday meal zaps my strength.  Of course, I have been on arimidex for three months so that could account for some of my fatigue.
