JMHO, but I think a total ban on soy -- especially eating whole soy foods -- is old school thinking.  What I was told @ UCLA and have seen reconfirmed in recent studies is that whole soy foods (tofu, edaname, etc.) in moderation (assuming you like them and have always eaten them), is good for us.  What we need to stay away from is soy protein isolate, which is soy protein powder (also found in the majority of energy bars), which is basically overly-concentrated soy.

Some women try to avoid soy by-products (like lecithin and soy bean oil, including in cosmetics) because most of the US soy crop is non-organic and heavily sprayed with herbicides and pesticides which can make its way into those soy by-products.

One way to see what you're buying is this website:  http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/   It lists the ingredients and safety rating for thousands of cosmetics and skin care products.  Pure organic coconut oil is a fabulous moisturizer and one way to go.       Deanna

I'm ER+ and my onc has never mentioned staying away from soy.  Everything in moderation.  I don't think you get enough from cosmetics or a few edamame beans to really affect anything.  I would use the Noxema still if you like it, but that's just me. :)

I went to a talk by Mayo clinic doctors recently and asked about soy. It's fine, good in fact, to eat some soy, like edamame and tofu. It's a good source of protein. It won't effect anything negatively. I was glad to hear that, as I love edamame!

Another vote for  "everything in moderation." (and I'm following that same advice to avoid concentrated soy protein powder).
