Looking for 2nd opinion in N.California

Hi all, (if I'm better off posting this to another forum or listserve, please advise. Thanks.)

I was recently diagnosed w primary ectopic axillary breast cancer (it's in my armpit, not my breasts) and am looking for a breast cancer oncologist in N. California or maybe LA, for a second opinion. I've gotten several recommendations for Dr. Hope Rugo at UCSF but she's booked solid.  The location is very rare, even though the type is commom (IDC, hormone positive, HER negative) and there's a question whether location makes a difference in the treatment plan.  Ideally, the oncologist would be willing to contact peers to see how they are treating this, and not just provide a 2nd opinion based on no or limited experience or on limited published case studies.

Have you considered Stanford? They have a big cancer center.

My oncologist was the one who recommended I got to UCSF for liver resection surgery.  He seems up on the latest treatment and unlike many, was unwilling to write me off because I was Stage IV.  He's in Sacramento.  He's not well-known with published papers but he certainly is willing to consult with others.

PM me if you want his information.  He's an oncologist though, not a surgeon.

Biscottigirl, my medical oncologist was Kathleen Grant, who is affiliated with CPMC.  She is extremely highly regarded in the SF community.  She's not warm & cuddly, but she is very knowledgeable and does not leave stones unturned.
