Here is the link to the organic mascara I use and like. Perhaps some of these products can go on our Holiday wish lists.

Just got an email about a free webinar hosted by Breast Cancer Action - re toxics in beauty products: http://bcaction.org/2011/11/08/toxic-cosmetics-webinar-what-consumers-don’t-know-about-their-beauty-products-and-what-you-can-do-about-it/ Choice of two dates and times . . .

Got it! Thanks!

Any one seen this site before. Seems like there is lots of info here that may pertain to us
-
I have been trying to cut and past a site I found but it will not come through. I typed in a search engine:
amino acids and breast cancer- and found a site that had tons of interesting info
-
this is a very interesting topic, i've actually just starting making my own laundry soap, it's free of toxins and also a lot cheaper! and back to diet based...i just came across this site that offers a lot of valuable information that some of you might find interesting and helpful. http://nutritionfacts.org/topics/cancer/
(btw, it's science based and noncommercial)

Wow this is an awesome thread. I am 4 months PFC with an inch of hair and have been investigating everything you ladies are discussing here. I just read in 15 minutes what took me 6 months to learn! Aww if only I had seen this earlier!! ha ha
Just to add another tidbit that I don't THINK I saw on this thread yet - keep in mind I have chemo brain!
For those of you with kids - Lice has been running rampant in our school district and if you read the labels of the lice shampoos and treatments - it will make your jaw drop. Horrible poisons and chemicals. Please consider using a tea-tree oil mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with water. Kills them instantly - then wash all your hair brushes etc...with that solution.
That is all I have to add at the moment!
-
Great tip thanks...hope I never have to use it though LOL
-
I haven't tried these products, but a friend of mine named Gayle has and really liked the soap (and she used it as shampoo). Not super affordable, but I thought you might be interested in the website.

SheriBell, a good lice prevention tip is to put 6-8 drops of tea tree oil in each bottle of shampoo and hair detangler. I have two girls in elementary school and this has worked for me so far. No critters yet (knock on wood).
-
Michelleo13 - yes I have heard that - tea-tree oil prevents them and kills them. I have heard some stories about people buying the over the counter lice controls and having their kids get very very ill and some have permanent issues from all the toxins in those products. I have been eliminating everything that is toxic in my home.
Something else to look at - toothpaste. If it says you can not swallow it - it is toxic. I've been using baking soda based toothpaste.
-
jla200 what is your recipe for homemade laundry soap?
Sheribell I use to work with a nurse and her children kept coming up with lice from the school. The school had a really bad problem. She did not want to use the chemicals so she would put mayo on their hair and have them sleep with a plastic cap on and it would kill the the lice as well.

Does anyone know a good product for undereye circles?
-
Ceeztheday I have been using a concealer by Korres and really like it. I went to the Sephora Counter at JCPenny and they really helped me with finding some makeup that was clean without all the bad stuff. There is a thread on here regarding make-up I'll bump it for you. It has alot of good stuff on it. Has not been active in awhile.
The name of the thread is Organic Makeup

Thanks for the info Sherry!

They ran this story on my local news tonight.
Eden organic canned products are in a BPA free can. Look for the "BPA free" label on the can. There are other organic brands, but they are NOT in BPA free cans.
-
Happy Thanksgiving everyone - I feel like we have a lot to be thankful for. Thanks for the link Merilee!
Just read an article about using bleach - that is bad stuff!
-
I was just going to post Eden Organics too. For tomatoes you can get Pomi tomatoes in a carton. They are not organic but are BPA free and imported from Italy. I avoid all canned items unless they are from Eden Organics these days.
I also just bought new cooking utensils. I found a brand XOX that is BPA free and has some plastic utensils that won't scratch things. I am no longer using non-stick pans except for eggs (nothing else works well for eggs but at least the pan is brand new and scratch free!). I also use wooden spoons.
For laundry soap I am using Ecos. I get it at Costco but I think Target also has smaller bottles.
For hand soap - Trader Joe's liquid soap in the pump bottle. Can't beat it...$3.99 per bottle. Pretty much chemical free.
Body soap and face wash from Neutragena Naturals.
Under eye concealer - Dr. Hauschka's. I am doing more make up shopping next week so I will let you know what else I come up with. I am going to an organic make up shop.
Someone just suggested Naturtint hair color to me - it has significantly less chemicals than other hair colors. I have not checked it out yet or used it yet. Worth looking into though.
What body lotion are you all using? I need some. Skin is so dry from chemo. Suggestions?
For deodorant I am using Nature's Gate - it is paraben, aluminum free.
Any shampoo recommendations? I also could use a good conditioner. My hair is super dry post chemo (I used cold caps to keep my hair so the hair is dry).
-
Lavera makes a coconut oil based mascara, love it. Also using coconut oil and almond oil to moisturize. Still using Nioxin to make my hair grow faster but will switch to something else when the bottle is empty.
-
Merilee - do you order your coconut mascara online?
MDG - how does food taste cooked in the coconut oil? Does it flavor at all?
I was astounded at all the places you ladies go to and the lengths you go to to get your toxic-free, chemical-free products. I applaud your passion and drive because I am exactly the same way!
I want to share that I have been purchasing all my household cleaners, vitamins, beauty supplies including hair care from one online store, I started last March right after my diagnosis. All their products are chemical - free and toxin - free. I was referred by a doctor if you can believe!
I like it because I can just order online and it is delivered super fast. SInce I work full time this is very helpful with 3 kids!
I get my tea-tree oil there as well- also they have a lotion called Renew that is incredible - I think it won an award as being better than Eucerin. My girls all with long hair love their shampoo - sadly I haven't really needed shampoo yet but I will soon! My hair is about an inch now!
Company been around since 1985. Got a Better Business Award as well for consumer integrity.
They are pretty reasonably priced too. Since they are a green company they send most of their cleaning products out in concentrate form and you add water.
I want to be 100% honest with you so I want you to know that enrolling people to shop here provides me with a small commission. This company is a great fit for me because I am passionate (as you ladies are
) about living toxic free so I am helping people to de-toxify their homes as well as making a little money too if they wish. Most people just buy from them - I just recently began enrolling folks because so many people come to my home and wanted to get the products so I started enrolling them.
Please message me if you want more information - I hesistate to even mention their name because I don't want a conflict of interest - I just want to blog with you ladies and I am not here on "business."
-
mdg I use coconut oil as well and love it. I use natures gate shampoo and conditioner and really lik eit.
-
This is where I get my Mascara
-
Sherry- Which shampoo from Natures Gate do you like best (herbal, tea tree, etc.).
-
MDG - I just got some body butter made by Yes to Carrots (you can get it at Target, among other places) - it's super creamy but not greasy . . . . (http://www.yestocarrots.com/product/super-rich-body-butter?product_id=191013)

ceezetheday--I use the biotin strengthening as I was having trouble with my hair thinning from tamoxifen. I also take biotin daily and my hair has gotten much better
