Breast Cancer Fundraiser--Suggestions for a worthy charity?

Hi All,

A good friend is doing a fundraiser to raise funds for a breast cancer charity/organization/foundation.  He was planning to donate all of the fundraiser proceeds to Komen or a similar organization this year until he found out how their money is actually allocated (After spending so much time on this site, I may have had a hand in this! ). So I told him you could all help me come up with some suggestions for how to make his donation do the most good.

See if there is a local BC Charity - they are more likely to use the money to help those w/o insurance, help with mortgage payments and child care etc.

Thank you all for your help!  He did the fundraiser and donated everything to Metavivor for research...
