Does anyone have experience with IDC and hepatitis C?

My 1/2 sister was 'successfully' treated for stage 1 IDC  She now wants to do the protocol for hepatitis C which is Ribavirin, Interferon and a protease(sp) inhibitor.  Does anyone have both or know anyone who has and have knowledge or experience with this?  Oncologist doesn't really know except to say that interferon is used for cancer pt;s and would be OK.  Would these meds be OK as far as not encouraging a recurrence. Thanks!

Acttually I think interferon helps stimulate your immune system. I know a little about Hep C cause my daughter (age 16) has had it all her life- she probably acquired it from her birthmother. How extensive is your sister's liver damage? If she can wait 3-5 years, a new all oral non interferon treatment is being fast tracked from Pharmasset-MUCH easier than the protease inhibbies. Those in the know say it will be approved in 2-3 years. The cure (SVR) rates are also much higher from this drug combo, now in Stage Two trials. My daughter's liver is ok so far so we are trying to wait for this.

P.S. Your sis needs to see a hepatologist if  she hasn't already. They know about Hep C, much more than most oncs.

A former coworker was diagnosed with BC at the age of 40 when pregnant. About 10 years later, at age 50, she underwent treatment for HepC. I know she had MX & chemo(not sure which) for BC. Not sure what drugs were used to treat her Hep C. She missed a lot of work during her HepC treatment. I no longer hear from her but i saw her 2 years ago & seemed to be doing well. Hopefully somone with 1st hand experience will chime in here.
