Fat necrosis

I had an mammo/ultrasound (I am in high risk surveillance due to my family history) and was called back for a core needle biopsy BIRADS 4 due to a new small solid nodule.  When I showed up for the biopsy they tell me in looking at it again on ultrasound they think it is fat necrosis and a biopsy is not necessary.  I certainly don't want to have any medical treatment unnecessarily, but can you diagnose this with an ultrasound.  I appreciate your comments!

    Hi txorchid,

I hate it when they say that. I have no experience with fat necrosis, however, my cancer was misdiagnosed for 1 year due to overly confident (arrogant??) radiologists and doctors who told me it was a benign fibroadenoma...no biopsy was needed, they were that sure. The truth is, without pathology, it is really only their best guess. Had I known then what I know now, I would have realized that I was being sold a load of garbage. My final u/s came back BIRADS 4 and they were still telling me it was benign. Better safe than sorry...I'd force a biopsy.

    Hugs,

    PLJ
