Coconut oil suppositories

Options

This may seem like a gross topic, but for the past 3 weeks I was so seveerely constipated that my rectum became inflamed and I was passing out blood because it was injured. I have no doubt in my mind that this was caused by the combination of chemo and painkillers. Everytime I went to the restroom the pain was so bad that I wanted to scream and thought I would pass out. My onco gave me anti-constipation pills and a stool softener, but I still had problems and my rectrum wasn't healing. I bought commercial suppositories but they just made me want to go quickly, and did nothing for the inflammation, pain and healing.

So I made my own suppositories from coconut oil. Here's how:

1) Chill some coconut oil in a glass jar until it turns firm and waxy.

2) Shape small portions with a spoon into bullet or torpedo shapes about an inch long. Do this on small squares of cling film. The film will help you produce the shapes, slightly pointed at one end.

3) Put the suppositories in a small freezer-proof container. Place the container into the freezer and within 10 minutes they should be firm enough to insert.

How many you insert during the day depends on your needs. On the first day, I used 4, spaced several hours apart. There was still a lot of pain after a couple of days, but my poor soft tissues were being lubricated and they were healing. My rectum made some funny sounds during this time. I still use the stool softener to minimise the pain when I pass motion. Overall, I am healing and the pain is lessenng.

I think I might mix in some helicrysum essential oil next time. It stops bleeding instantly, reduces inflammation and heals tissues fast. Very expensive but worth more than gold to me, as I've seen how fast it works. Hope this information helps someone.

that sounds brilliant.. coconut oil seems awesome for everything.. i don't know about the helicrysum essential oil ... i wonder how eating coconut oil would add to your function?  I've added a teaspoon a day.. and i can't really attest to it, but it seems to work wonders.

I have found that every pain killer makes one constipated and try to drink lots of water and drink ballerina tea.. a chinese tea that is for weight lost.  It contains senna, a stool softener.. it is good because i can regulate the dosage.. a single teabag or a few sips.  going too much is as bad as going not enough.

peace and love, apple / Mary

Hi chillipadi, I am so sorry to hear of your ordeal and the discomfort you're having.  At the same time, I'm so impressed by your ingenuity!  Thank you for posting your method for creating coconut oil suppositories.  I was wondering several months ago about how coconut oil might be applied vaginally to relieve dryness.  My mom keeps getting urinary tract infections, and some of the reading I've done suggests vaginal dryness increases the risk of getting them.  ....haven't quite broached the subject of vaginal dryness with my mom yet.  So glad to know of a potential remedy when the subject comes up.  I LOVE coconut oil, inside and out.  I use it topically on my skin and in the kitchen also.

I love coconut oil too and use it for all kinds of things. Hmm, don't know why I never thought of using the suppositories to lubricate the vagina. I wonder if they'll pop out too easily? In any case, whenever you use these suppositories, I suggest you line your panties with tissue or a thin sanitary pad. The oil can leak out and stain your clothes and furniture.

Hey chili! Have you ever tried enemas?  They might be difficult while you are inflamed but they are wonderful...really!  I use coconut oil in the water that I use for the enema.  I feel so much better afterwards.

Hi Imp, I've never tried enemas as I can't imagine doing them. Don't like to mess around with my insides if I don't have to. I've heard about people who puncture their colon etc and have to have surgery and wear a colon bag forever after that. Too scary. Glad they work for you though :) Isn't coconut oil useful.

althea..you could give your mom a small jar of coconut oil and then just wink at her and then tell a story about someone you who used to get urinary tract infections.

i adore coconut oil.  they say if you eat a tspoon a day it actually helps you lose weight.  I do eat a teaspoon a day.. it just seems so very natural and a perfect addition to my regime.. i imagine it coating my stomach and intestines so the meds will not inflame them.

my boys love it too.. they put it in their hair and eat it..

why do they always get in my stuff?

    WOW!

what a great idea - sorry it had to come from such a difficult situation for you.  Really does sound like the best way to apply vaginally  - at least gives you time to get from insertion - to bed without too much mess ( my current situation)

Thanks - and again, sorry you had to go thru so much pain to learn this geat idea.

Puncture their colon? OUCH.  Not to be too graphic but I dont insert more than a couple inches, if that!  I dont do them as often as I would like because they are time consuming but I feel sooo much better after, especially if constipated.

Coconut seems to be one of nature's most perfect foods!

chilipad:  I use the coconut oil just before I go to sleep - yes, with a pad/pants - and by morning I feel SO much better.  This vaginal atrophy gets WORSE, btw, the longer on an AI.  GRIM.
