Hi, I was dx in March '10, had lumpectomy, one node was positive so had axillary clearance, chemo and 30 sessions rad. Am now on Anastrozole (I'm in Ireland so people on the site may not be familar with this?), its estrogen inhibitor. I recently discovered a fairly big area of thickening just to the left of the scar from my surgery to remove lump and have quite a bit of pain in the breast, the lumpy area feels a bit like its bruised, I also have pain occasionally over my shoulder and stabbing pain in my neck going up through my head. I have to go back to hospital on Thurs this week but am driving myself mad looking at sites for info on recurrance! Anyone here experience any of this? And if so, did it turn out to a recurrance? I just prefer to know, whatever way it goes. Thanks a lot and thanks for all the support anf help I have found here just by reading all your posts. Love and Light to you all xx

I have had 3 lumpectomies so far with no other treatment so I can't quite relate or understand a lot of what goes into advance cancer treament. But, I also have had those stabbing pains in the lumpectomies scars. I heard that it was normal so I ignored it. Today, I learned that where the stabbing pains are (the scar area) is a recurrence but this time it's invasive. I don't know, but if I were you I would ask for an mir or mammo. Once you've been dx, you must be alert to changes in your breast.

    Hi, Prema.

You may already have an answer to your question by now.  But I experienced something very similar last December.  I had pain in the area of my prior lumpectomy and while there was no lump or anything, I could tell there was a thickening.  I went to see my breast surgeon the following month and she too felt the thickening so sent me for a mammogram and ultrasound.  This picked up something and so I had a biopsy a week later and it turned out to be breast cancer again.  The new tumor was actually entwined with the scar tissue from my first surgery.  This time I had a bi-lateral mastectomy -- who wants to keep going through this????  Anyway, always pay attention when your body tells you something.  It's best to get it checked out each time.

I hope yours turns out to be nothing.  Best of luck.

When I had my lumpectomy, the cold would go right through me and sharp pains would come and go.  I live in Winnipeg, Canada and I heard that massages takes the pain away.  The place I went ot for a massage specialize in fluid isometrics, the massage is a bit painful but the results are worth it.  My first massage; I never felt the cold go through me and never did I get sharp pains again.
