Blood Counts and Neutropen

Options

Is anyone else out there having trouble with their blood counts. I am being delayed for the second time for my chemo despite being on Neutropen. If I can't get the chemo how am I supposed to get rid of the cancer in my body.

    Hi Carebear,

Neutropenia (low white blood cells) is a serious medical condition. I suffered with very Low WBC throughout my Chemo starting with my first round. It hovered between 1-2 most of the time. I was on daily Neupogen injections until my counts went above 10 I couldnt stop the injections (normailly 7-10 days) and then I could resume Chemo. My counts only caused me to miss/delay one of my rounds but the continuously low WBC ultimately led to a decreased immune system and I got very sick and missed a round due to illness and then my RBC plumeted and I ended up needing a blood transfusion. So hang in there. It was also suggested that I follow a macro biotic diet and wear a mask whenever it would go out. stock up on hand santizer.

    Best of luck.

    Hi Babyswim,

Thank you so much, I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one that started out with low counts. I was only 1.3 when I started and can't seem to get better than that. Even with the Neupogen injections (mine were only for 8 days) I was still delayed. I wonder now after your post if they will suggest that I have the shots for longer. So far I have been very lucky and feel pretty good most of the time but I do have bone pain from the Neupogen. Hand sanitizer is my best friend right now. In my car, in my purse, at the front door of the house, in the kitchen. in the bathroom,.... ect.you get the picture.
