The tumor could be either or from the orginal or new. So there is no clear answer to that. Also it deprneds on what hormone receptor it is. Did you have lymph node involvement? If so then you will probably have to do more chemo. I did chemo and radiation together. Some chemo's you can do that some you cannot. I am sorry I could not give you a clear answer on that. I hope the best for you. I am sure that others will come along and be able to answer some questions for you.

Hi elizabeth, i dont think so, when i asked my surgeon, he said it was small and that we made the right decision to do the bilateral and i would only need to continue with my radiation.  I have posed this question to my oncologist via the oncology nurse, so am hoping for some more answers.  thank you so much for your advice, this is hard man to get your head round :)

I had a screening mammogram last Nov. and a tumor was found in both breasts.  This is called synchronous bilateral carcinoma.  Looks like this is what you had too, they just didn't know it.  In all my research and doctor's visits, the experts regard this situation as 2 primary cancers (not one that has spread).  I think oncologists just go forward with treating the larger / higher stage tumor.   Do you know the details of the 'surprise' tumor, ER? HER2?

Be thankful that you had a BMX, talk about validation of that decision!  I also had a BMX and in one breast there were several small areas of cancer that weren't detected on mammogram or ultrasound.
