The perfect dining companion

I get crabby at formal events. I am sitting there hoping my arm doesn't swell too much without a sleeve.

Well on Saturday evening, one of the people at my table had severely deformed arms, and no legs.

He was even able to joke about it.

It was kind of amazing watching him eat with his hook, but oddly I really got used to it after a while.

So at least for one night my arm obsession was quelled.

Whoah.  Nothing like a big dose of perspective to give you some gratitude, huh? 

I am constantly amazed by the human spirit.  And those examples of your dining companion remind me to quit whining and be grateful for what I still have.  Wow.  I hope you bought him a drink!

I know what you mean Cookie.  I have a 23 yr old nephew with Cystic Fibrosis and I cannot compare my LE to it!  He never complains.  He now has a permanent port and feeding tube.  He weighs about 95 lbs.  I know we probably do not have too many more years to enjoy him.  When he used to have a pic line in and his arm was all swaddled in bandages people would ask what happened.  He always said "oh it was just a Saturday night special".  Becky

One day I was having a major pity party - I going through the gates at a Nationals baseball game, it was hot, and I knew I was going to have issues, and I was majorly whining about the unfairness of it all.  Then the bus from Walter Reed Hospital, where they care for the severely wounded veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan, let out a bunch of soldiers who were going to the game - young people with missing arms, legs, eyes, etc.  I got over my pity party in a hurry.
