Breast Improving?
Hi there. I'm new to this site. I was dx with IBC June 2011. Since then I've had 5 of 8 chemo treaments. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how many chemo treatments they had before they saw improvements in the way the breast looked. Thanking you all in advance.

Queenie,
I was always concerned on chemo with ibc because the scans showed improvement, but I always had the redness. I had 8 treatments of chemo (cytoxin, taxotere & adriamyacin). I was stable for a year and then had a BMX which completely removed all redness & inflamation. 6 months later, my scans came out completely clean. I started with bone mets so I'll always be on zometa or Xgeva. I was also started on Femara after chemo. Best to you on your treatments.

Thank you for your reply ibcmets. I have had 4 AC treatments and now I'm on Herceptin and Docetaxel for the last 4. I had extreme muscle/bone pain with my first Herceptin and Docetaxel treatment. I have my 2nd one tomorrow and hoping for a better time of it. Also, I'm scheduled for radiation next, then surgery. Have you heard of that before. Thanks so much.

Queenie,
Your treatment schedule is normal for IBC. I was stage IV from the start with bone mets so they delayed surgery until I was stable for a year. In my case, radiation was not recommended since I was stage IV and had the chemo & surgery. I had bone pain on my first chemo treatment only.

I saw an improvement in my redness after the first few taxol treatments. I had chemo, then surgery and just finished radiation.

Within a a month or two the 3mm tumor was gone. By the end of chemo the inflammation & orange peal was gone. The breast was a bit discolored from where the rash had been & the breast was much softer in texture.
My breast specialist said I would loved to say your cured but we just can't guarantee anthing & she still recommended the mastectomy & radiaition. So far so good, almost 4 years and stil NED. NJ
Chemo 4dd AC, 8 Taxol, 3.5 Taxotere in around 6 months.
