Questions for First Meeting with Med Onc

Hi Ladies,

I am new to the site. I was diagnosed in July, had a SNB and Lumpectomy in August, re-excision in Sep with a close DCIS margin. I meet with the med onc next week, and I am wondering what questions I should be asking. I know they will give me my Oncotype score and their recommendations for chemo, tamoxifan, etc. But what questions do I need to ask about types of chemo and other therapies? Did your med oncs register for Adjuvant Online? What is the timeline from meeting your med onc to starting chemo? I am worried about a time lapse since I had a close margin.

Thanks!

Ask about the adjuvent online numbers and oncotype for sure.  I would also review your final pathology with the med onc to see if there is anything on there to be further concerned with (I had lymphavascular invasion which was concerning on my pathology report).  Understand the statistics on tamoxifen.  As far as chemo - ask about the side effects you should be concerned with and what the schedule for treatment would be.  I would ask about foods/diet - what they want to you to avoid during chemo or permanently.  If you take any vitamins/supplements, ask if they can be taken with chemo or not.  I have similar stats to you...see below.  Let me know if you have any questions...feel free to PM me. Good luck!
