Anyone else have Gemzar/Carbo for early stage TN?
I'm starting 4-6 rounds of Gemzar/Carboplatin the first week of October. Diagnosed stage 2a, triple neg, negative nodes, BRCA1+. I just had bilat mx with DIEP reconstruction Aug 3. Surgery went well, no surprises and clear margins. This is a new primary on the left side.
In 2008, I had a stage 2a, triple neg/low ER+, negative nodes tumor on the right side. Back then I had neoadjuvant Taxotere/Cytoxin, lumpectomy, rads, and tamoxifen. TC shrunk the tumor to 3mm!
I have read that Gemzar/Carbo is used for advanced BC and some other cancers, and it has not really been studied for early stage BC.
Just wondering if anyone else has done this treatment, or will be? (As a side note, my onc said I wouldn't lose my hair again on this combo, but I have read that some women do have thinning or total loss. Any comments on this?)

Sorry you have no answers yet. My doc was going to add carbo to my abraxane, but decided to do avastin instead. This is my second time around also, although mine is a much later stage. It seems those with more advanced bc have good results with the combo you are doing.

Thanks for the reply bak94. I am really wondering if anyone else out there with early stage is getting this combo. Seems like I am the only lab rat in this experiment... : )

Thanks Rayma! I'm glad it worked for you! I know Taxol causes hair loss for sure. I'm still hoping the GC won't.

I was due to have gem/carbo for a local recurrance after mastectomy. This was the third diagnosis in two years of BC and it is now incurable as it is in the skin at the mastectomy site. At the time of diagnosis my CT scan was clear so I started on Carbo only which didnt work and I ended up having a bad reaction to it. My onc then put me onto Gemzar which has worked really well on the mastectomy site. I didnt lose any hair and dont have hardly any side effects.
