Hi ladies,

Chris (aka fuzzylemon) is having computer trouble and can't access BCO right now and has a question for all you wise ladies out there.  Here's what she told me on FB:

"Dilemma, go through booster radiations and risk severe side effects (10% chance but very life altering)...or not.  My belly says do it.  Anyone know anyone who has done this"?

Apparently her onc says because of her type of BC he would recommend them ( 5 more but perhaps 9) but they could cause serious capillary damage and unbearable pain for the rest of her life.

I had boosters throughout rads, but never heard about the capillary or unbearable pain thing.  If anyone out there has info on this let me know and I'll relay it back to her.

Thanks ladies!
Sharon

I had the booster radiation and had no problems.  I am very fair, and actually had no burning other than a very small spot near my superclavicular nodes.  I had never heard of these side effects!  I think it is a good idea for fuzzylemon!

I did boosters also and was never told about those SE, not having any issues as of now.

I got a second opinion at Sloan Kettering. According to them, For mx patients, the risks outweigh the benefits. Boosts that are to the scar line are for local recurrence only and the risk of a local recurrence in that area is quite minimal.

Some people have no issues. I had major ones. Rads was the worst part of everything for me.

    My 2 cents : )

I've been thinking of fuzzy for a while, wondering how she's doing.  Please give her my best!

Regarding boosts--I had a combination: boosts during my 28 rads rather than at the end.  I elected to have rads due to a 1mm margin at the chest wall.  That was just too close for my comfort!  No pain, no LE (knock HARD on wood!) and no burning.  Just a dumb little black dot (tatoo) at my collar bone to remind me of the ordeal.
