Hey ladies,

I live in NE Georgia. Currently using a general surgeon in Gainesville, Ga but now that I've had my biopsy and will need further surgery & treatment I was wanting to hear from anyone here in Georgia that could recommend a good BS and PS.

I don't like using names on the internet, even in a forum like this, I'm sending you a PM Kim137

I live in N Ga but drive to BreastCare Specialists.  I LOVE Dr Jennifer Amerson.  The whole practice is good but she was my surgeon and can't imagine using anyone else.  They have a very busy practice and wait times can be pretty bad.  Just so you know.  She is a very good surgeon and a wonderful person.  She held my hand when they were putting me out.  She truly cares.  Pm me if you need more info.

mom3band1g, you are the 3rd person to speak highly of BreastCare Specialists in Atlanta! 2 women I work with have also had loved ones who saw Dr. Simpson and Dr. Steinhaus in that practice. Although, I truly love my General Surgeon in Gainesville, I think since I may be looking at a masectomy I would feel more comfortable in the hands of someone who concentrates their practice on breasts and breasts only. Thanks again. It is always reassuring to hear from people who have had experiences with these MD's.

That was my practice, but I switched. I got really tired of it taking an entire day of waiting hours and hours past my appointment time.

Look into Piedmont and Emory too. They have some great facilities and doctors.

After coming to Emory for my second opinion, I switched immediately.  I am using Dr. Carlson.  who is both a breast surgeon and plastic surgeon. They have a nurse navigator who helps coordinate your care between the different departments.  So far, I've had a really good experience at Emory.

Also, Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University is Georgia's first and only cancer center designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

Thanks Geewiz and Hope2011, I have been researching the Emory facility as well. Knowing that Emory is recognized by NCI is plus! Have either of you had to undergo reconstructive surgery? There are so many choices to make...my head is still spinning! Reading these forums has definitely helped me feel more at ease. 'knowing' others here in Ga is also helpful. :)

I had surgery at Emory, but did not have Carlson. I know someone who did..and absolutely loved him. He also put her port in her arm to minimize more chest scarring. He did a nipple sparing on her that went well. I was quite upset that the arm placement of the port and a nipple sparing procedure were never even discussed with me by my doc...Losken. I felt like I was on a bit of an assembly line there, but if you take charge of your own care...and it's all really just standard of care...you will be fine. Dr. Khouri in Miami is my ps now.

I haven't had surgery yet.  We've been discussing nipple sparing with saline implants.
