Lump in opposite beast
I have had bc twice in same breast - first time in 1999 when I was 31yrs, 2nd time local recurrance in 2003. Went through chemo both times. Several weeks ago I found a large lump in opposite breast! I go for ultrasound and possible needle biopsy on August 30th. Ughhhhh.......just hate even being bothered with this again! I don't know if I ever even said these words out loud the first two times, but "i'm scared." I have a little girl and I don't want to be sick with her. Just feeling anxious....anyone out there had multiple recurrances/bc's?

Hi Stephanie: I just had a biopsy in the left breast two weeks ago. I was dx with breast cancer in the right breast in 2000 and that breast was removed. I was dx with metastatic disease two years ago and have been in treatment since. Got the results last week and it is IDC again. Since I am in treatment for the metastatic disease, onc suggests doing nothing. I don't understand all of this, but he will explain more when I go for my Zometa drip on Sept 1. I don't think it is called a recurrence because it is in a different breast, but I'm not positive about this. I was told that women with breast cancer in one breast have a slightly higher chance of getting a second breast cancer in the opposite. Again, I don't really know a lot about this, but I'm currently in that situation. I hope things go well for you. I'll check back to see how you are doing. Thoughts your way. Jean

I had breast cancer in the opposite breast 28 years after the first one. The onc said it is a new cancer, not a recurrence. He said cancer doesn't spread to the opposite breast. So that is good news for us. I had a lumpectomy and am now on Aromasin.
Hoping your lump is benign. Best of luck in either case. Hang in there. I know it is a huge shock, especially for you having had it twice before.

Best wishes that it is benign. I haven't had a recurrence, still going through tx on the first time around, but wanted to echo what srbreastcancersurvivor said, if it isn't benign, it is a new cancer, not a recurrence. And that is much better, but hoping for benign for you. Hang in there.

Thank you! I, too, will be sending positive energy your way(s). If this is not cancer, I'm having mastectomy on that side too. I never knew until this that we have higher chance of cancer in other breast. Seems like all of the chemo I've had would have knocked out cancer everywhere for a long time in my body!

My onc gave me the option to see a surgeon about this new cancer. The surgeon is removing the new lump (IDC) on Monday. Because of the metastatic disease, the surgeon was not willing to do a mastectomy. I'm okay with all of this and glad he is willing to remove it. It was discussed that watching could be a "marker," but I was not comfortable with that. Hoping you had good results with your tests Stephanie67. Jean
