trip neg newborn
I join this group today. reading my reports and I am trip neg grade 3 idc metaplastic..no idea if in the lymph or not yet. Waiting for recon surgeon consult and then cooridinate with bs for mast/recon in same day. Now I am scared about the trip neg dx. Did not realize they were harder to treat :{ So many things racing through my mind right now...how will I tolerate chemo...How long will I be out....what are my chances of survival. Can't wait to find out. I am determined to keep my chin up--although I reserve my right to cry when I feel like it and maybe even get a little B****Y when I want to--I believe that positivity will help me and my family through this

Mmmm...Mags. Wow. That is quite a report. You get bitchy all you want
In the "Just Diagnosed" forum I did bump a thread for you with ladies who have been Dx-ed with metaplastic BC.
Take it one step at a time. Breathe deeply and remember, if you needs some meds to help with anxiety, you ask the Dr if you havent already.

I'll share something with you that my breast surgeon and oncologist said early on and really helped me. The more aggressive the tumor, typically means a better response to chemo. I had a complete response to the chemo (tumor gone and no cancer detected anywhere in my breast tissue or nodes) by the time I had my BMX. I had a good cry at least daily when I was diagnosed . . . I think it's mandatory!
You can do this!!Kathy

Mags i just wanted to tell you that last week i had lunch with a dear friend. She was diagnosed triple neg 16 years ago and is doing fine and living her life to the fullest. Hugs to you.

Sorry to welcome you to this club, but this is a great resource for support through the BC process.
I am hear to also say (in addition to KSteve and HollyHopes) that TN responds very well to chemo. Like KSteve I was clean by the time I had my BMX. Onc said it as a complete pathological response.
It is scary and agree with Marie, if you need some meds to take the edge off do it. I did just to make sure I kept positive as I did not want my teenage daughter to worry (so much).
Take one day at a time and before you know it this BC thing will be in your rear view mirror.
Hugs and positive thoughts!

My 30 year old daughter was just diagnosed last week as triple negative. I am so scared for her. Her biggest fear was chemo and it sounds like that is exactly she needs. I hope the surgeon on Monday can ease her fears. I wonder why the surgeon we saw last week wanted to go straight for the surgery? He did keep mentioning that he was getting old enough to retire. That right there did it for me. Second opinion with a female breast specialist. I hope I am back here on Monday that we walked out of her office with confidence.
Thank you so much for the support. This is a wonderful place as I am sitting here alone taking care of my 2 grandsons. Being alone is the worst.

I was diagnosed TN and it scared me to death, but after BMX and chemo I'm here and doing fine, eight and a half years later. Working concessions at the football game tonight! I did 4 AC and 4 Taxol.
-
I had surgery 1st 'cause the surgeon could get good margins around the IDC and my tumors in my nodes were bigger than the micro IDC in my breast. I had a mastectomy 'cause I also had 9cm of DCIS.
I've done 4 dose dense AC and 6/8 weekly Taxol with rads to follow.

Kim: Good your daughter is getting a second opinion. Sometimes doctors decide to do chemo first to either shrink a large tumour so it can be successfully excised with clean margins and/or to see if the regimen is effective (tumour shrinkage). This can be especially important with triple negative as chemo is the only systemic treatment we have. That said, many of us here had surgery first, followed by chemo and that is effective too. Triple negative usually responds well to chemo, so that is a silver lining in a terrible cloud. Write down all your questions, and write down all the answers - it can be overwhelming and easy to forget. Very good that you'll be going with her.
-
I had chemo first then had BMX. Tell your daughter chemo is not as bad as in the movies. They have a lot of medicine to help with the side effects. She will get thru it by taking one day and one step at a time. There will be good days and bad ones but science has come a long way. Of course we are not at the ultimate cure but cancer treatment is a lot more tolerable then in the past.
Luah - Agree totally. Write down questions and the answers. Believe me your mind can sometimes go blank.
We are here for you and your daughter and will keep her in our thoughts and prayers.
-
Luah, and Living Large, you have both lifted my spirits. Last night was rough. Big storm, and no power but woke up to a beautiful day and a new spirit. My two little grandsons are being such good boys and their mom should be home today! Ready for appt. tomorrow. Questions are written down and I'm ready for it ;(at least right now). Strangely enough my oldest grandson (8) turned to me and said "Grammy do you believe in God?" Out of the blue. Maybe he senses something but they have not been told anything until we know exactly what is going to happen.
-
Please let us know how tomorrow goes. I am real glad you are there for your daughter. My mom was of great help. It is so important and comforting to have family and friends around through out the process (treatment). With that said I understand how hard it is for family to watch, but be strong and make sure you get plenty of rest. You need to take care of yourself in order to help your daughter.
Positive thoughts and prayers.
