tumor markers???

I was diagnosed with DCIS.  Had a BMX.  No further treatment.  I told my doctor I do not want to have tumor markers drawn.  I have read that many things can cause them to elevate.  I have a very high stress level.  I don't want to worry!!  I told him I will let him do his exams and ultrasounds but no Tumor markers....Am I wrong?

I agree.  The tumor marker test can be unreliable.  Why stress over it.   I've read somewhere on these threads of other people making the same decision.  I'm glad my doctor does not do them.

This wasn't even brought up by my onco for DCIS. Is this the norm?

I dont know if its  the norm.  BUT, I can not handle waiting for those results, because I have heard too many factors influence the results.  I don't want to add any more stress!! LOL

I don't think I ever had mine checked .... I don't even want to go for a check-up with my bs!  I love her but I'd like to pretend this whole thing never happened!

I don't blame you, they are unreliable, especially the CA 27-29 it is very sensitive and is done along with other TM tests.  My CEA, CA 15-3 are normal but the CA 27-29 has been abnormal since November 2010.  After taking the test 3 times I told my onc I want a CT scan and Uterine ultra-sound cuz I had fibroids 4 years ago.  CT scan is neg, but I still have uterine fibroids so that is probably why the test is abnormal, (I hope).  She still wants to monitor me.
