Vegans and platelets

Options

Anybody have their platelets and white blood cell counts fall below normal after starting a vegan diet?  My platelets have been falling but seem to have stabilized (fingers and toes crossed)...I've read online that vegans often have lowish platelet and white blood cell counts.  Anybody else experience this?

Thanks, Bruburn

I followed a strict vegan diet through chemo....my platelets stayed super low. I added sublingual b6 into the supplement mix, and this helped. When things got really bad, I scrambled up an egg with salsa....not exactly vegan, but WOW!! Did this ever help with the counts and with how I felt!! I hope your counts stay high!!

I agree w/ appleabout protein. I'm vegetarian but durings rads I spoke to my nurse and upped my protein intake by eating fish a few times a week (helps w/ b12 too). She said protein is a bigger issue for chemo than rads, you might need 2x your normal amount. best of luck!
