need a great breast surgeon in the L.A. area
Hi, I was just diagnosed with idc and dic. My tumor is 0.4 cm well differentiated and a grade of 1. I did not have clean margins so I need reexcision surgery and a sentinel node biopsy. My doctor said right now I am a stage 1 because my tumor is so small. My tumor size could change because the cancer is still in the margin. My doctor said if it is found to be larger it should only be 1cm. My stage could change if there is lymph node involvement. I am not happy with my breast surgeon and I was wondering if anyone knows a great breast surgeon in the Los Angeles area. I prefer to go to St. John's or Ucla hospital.

One of the reasons I recommended Dr. Dennis Holmes on the other thread is that he is one of the few practicioners in Los Angeles who does Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT). If you qualify for this you're extremely, extremely lucky. St. Johns and UCLA don't do it.
http://www.breastcanceriort.org/
IORT means no radiation burns, no pain, no multiple trips for radiation, less fatigue, less radiation exposure to other organs, less internal scarring, less risk of seroma, and fewer SEs in general. The accuracy of the delivered radiation is also better and considered to be more effective. Not everyone qualifies. Not everyone lives close enough to a place where it's done, but you do.
I had this procedure and everyone I've spoken to envys me.
Dennis R. Holmes, M.D. is a Board Certified dedicated breast surgeon and clinical researcher at the University of Southern California Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center where he also serves as Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at the USC Keck School of Medicine and Vice-Chair of the Breast Oncology Clinical Research Committee. In addition to maintaining a private practice at USC Norris Cancer Center, Dr. Holmes also serves as Chief of the Breast Section at Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center where he supervises the surgical management of all breast cancer patients.
Dr. Holmes also does Axillary Reverse Mapping to lower the possibility of developing lymphedema.

Hi, I just had a unilateral mastectomy at UCLA last Tuesday. I used Dr. Raquel Prati as my breast surgeon, and Dr. Festekjian for implant recon. Many women on this site have used both Doctors and have been pleased with their outcomes. It is very early yet, but so far I am happy with the care I have received at UCLA. It really is a top notch hospital! I also saw Dr Holmes at USC for a second opinion, he is excellent and also highly recommended. I had a hard time choosing but I'm happy so far at least! please pm me if you have any specific questions about the UCLA experience.
Also, if you enter the search term "LA surgeon" in the discussion board search engine, you will find many results from ladies who live in the LA area. Best Wishes... -
This is not L.A., but orange county. Dr.Lisa Curcio, go to www. advanced breast care specialist.com She is the most wanted surgeon in this area!!! She is awesome, she only does
BC, which is great!!! She is also a survivor herself. If you don't mind traveling a few miles, I promise you will love her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi lbarbados,
Thank you so much for letting me know.
-
Hello again lbarbados, Where is the discussion board search engine? I went to the discussion board, but I didn't see the search engine.
-
Has anyone had surgery with any of the following doctors in the L.A. area. Dr. Gregory Senofsky, Dr. Leslie Memsic, Dr. Jason Cohen or Dr. Amy Kusske. Also has anyone used Dr. Johnathan Goldman or Dr. Sarah Hurvitz as their medical oncologist?
-
Hi,
Okay, to find the search engine, do the following: Scroll up to the very top of this page. Look in the upper right hand corner in the burgandy discussion board title area. On the right you will see options such as "my preferences" etc. The last option listed underneath "log out" is "Search". Click on search and it will take you to another page. I think you must be logged in to search.
There you can search by keyword. I suggest you type in "LA surgeon" and hit return. Scroll down and the results will be there on the same page.
I hope this helps... -
HI lbarbados, Thank you for letting me know.

I went to UCLA last Sept. Dr. Bennion as surgeon and Dr. Festekjian as the plastic surgeon--I can't say enought good things about UCLA. And for me, it's a 3 hour trip one way but they are the best.

Hi, Sara Hurvitz is my oncologist. She is GREAT! As for breast surgeons, I had both Raquel Prati and Nova Foster, they are both excellent. Good luck!

By BS was Dr. Kenneth Adashek (had lumpectomy then 2 separate mastectomies). He is outstanding. Had the surgeries at Cedars-Sinai and had wonderful care there. I highly recommend him. My MO is Philamena McAndrew in Beverly Hills. Also superb (had chemo. Infusions were done at her office).

Hi Melania, I have an appointment with Dr. Gregory Senofsky this Monday. He is in the same office with Dr. Memsic at St. John's hospital. I have heard a lot of good things about Dr. Senofsky. If I don't care for him or if I need a second opinion I will go to Dr. memsic. Thank you for telling me about this. I am sorry that you had to go through all of this at such a young age.
Hugs!!!!!

I know that this post is years late - but I had a disastrous experience with Beth Hurvitz. She did not read my records and put me on the wrong drug. Failed it and had to scramble!
