Possible Phyllodes Tumor - Scared

Options

Hi Everyone,

To start off - my name is Ayla. I'm 21 years old and live on the west coast.

I was 15 when I first discovered a lump in my right breast. I went to the clinic, they sent me to an ultrasound and took a needle sample of the lump. They told me it was a Fribroadenoma and to not be concerned. I did some research on it, it eased my mind and I wasn't too worried.

Now fast forward, 6 years later. I went for a pap, and of course told the Doctor about my lump. I could tell it grew, but it was so gradual I didn't really notice it. She sent me off to another ultrasound, they determined it had doubled in size - from about 2cm to 4.2cm. I went back in a week later for a core biopsy. They took four samples, but told me because it's over 3cm they want it removed anyways.

I got my results yesterday (I only had my biopsy on Monday) and the results couldn't really tell me much from the samples, but they said they believe it to be a Phyllodes Tumor. They're scheduling me to see the surgeon soon.

Now I know I'm young, and it's rare for someone so young to have anything serious - and a Phyllodes Tumor is not likely to be anything other than benign - so statistics are in my favor. Yet, there still is a chance, and in the back of my mind I am terrified. What if they take it out, slice it up and discover it is something? Has anyone here had a Phyllodes Tumor? What was your experience?

I know I have to be positive, and it's very unlikely that I do have anything, but it's frustrating when no one can tell me much and I have to wait until surgery.

Thanks to everyone for your input, I know compared to a lot of other people out there this doesn't seem that serious.

- Ayla
