Hives from meds
I have Faslodex, Decadron, and Gabapentin in my system, and hives all over my back, torso, neck and skull. They itch a bit, so I've also taken Benedryl. Has anyone gotten hives from any of these meds? Has Faslodex ever cause anyone here a rash or hives?
I thought it might also be the Norco I was taking for pain. I stopped that, but the rash didn't go away.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but I highly suggest you call your oncologist right away. Allergic reactions to medication are not to be taken lightly.
Come back and let us know what they say.

You can have rash/hives from almost anything. Especially since you are on the steroid dexamethasone (which may be keeping a more serious reaction under the radar), I agree with jancie that you need to call your doctor right away!

I get hives all the time. They can come from anxiety, in which case there's no cause for alarm. However, hives can be a precursor to anaphlaxis, which IS a cause for alarm because it's life-threatening. Please contact your prescribing doctor or at least your pharmacy. You do NOT want to go into anaphlactic shock.

Thanks!
I contacted both my oncologist and the spine surgeon. I am pretty sure it's the Gabapentin now, because of the timing of my flare-ups after I take the meds. The spine surgeon told me to go off it it, so now I'm waiting to see if it helps. I'm taking Benedry, and it's just welts and hives- nothing worse . And yes, It's probably good that I'm on the Decadron or it might be worse.
I really hope this is the answer. I know, it could be just about anything, from food to stress. If it's this med, it should run it's course in a week, I think- maybe sooner.

I am so glad you contacted your doctor and then came back to let us know what he said.
Hope the hives go away!

Glad you talked to your doctor about this and soooo sorry you have hives. I had them 15 months starting from 2009 and went through all my breast dx and treatments with those hives. It was awful and I really understand how upsetting it is.
Benadryl doesn't do much for some people (did zero for me). If your doc says it's safe to take Zyrtec, try that - it is often very effective. You can also try another pathway by taking Zantac along with Zyrtec. It is very effective for some. That you have hives right through a steroid is pretty significant, so good thing you are on top of it. Not all hives are indicative of an anaphylactic reponse.
Hang in there and I hope they go away soon.
