I am 11 months post-chemo, 9 post-radiation and 7 post-final prophylactic surgery.

My GI is still not normal, and I was wondering if anyone else had issues almost a year after chemo. I have changed my diet some (way more fruits and veggies, less meat), but I usually have two or three loose bowel movements every morning. I had a colonoscopy last September that was completely normal. My primary dr said that recovering to normal BMs can take quite a while, but I wanted to check with you all.

Any feedback would be helpful.

Thanks,

Patsy

Hi Patsy, I had loose movements to the point of coloured water for about eighteen months.  After much testing it was found that I had a systemic yeast infection and am now on prescription strength diflucin every day for six months.  So far six weeks have passed and I have already returned to normal movements.  Hope this helps a little.

    Love n hugs.  Chrissy

    Patsy

It could be due to the increased fibre in your diet.

    Hi Patsey,

I still have trouble with my bowel movements four years after chemo. My GI doc said he sees it a lot and I should not worry. I know my body went through a lot, it's going to take time.

Patsy, chemo totally changes the bacterial makeup of our GI tract.  If you haven't already, maybe try adding a little yogurt or a probiotic supplement to your diet -- something to replace the beneficial bacteria that was wiped out.  But be careful not to overdo it, as that can be just as bad.    Deanna
