Dr Evans in London
I am scheduled for my first consultation on Dec 2, 2011. Does he schedule surgery at this appointment or are there several appointments after that. How far is he booked for Diep surgery.
Thank you

Hi Diane,
Yes, Dr Evans will schedule your DIEP surgery when you have your consult if you are sure that is what you want to do. I had an appointment in early May and I am scheduled for Nov 22., 2011 for the DIEP surgery. I am not sure how far he is scheduling out now, however, you could call his office and ask his secretary b/c she does his OR bookings.
Dr Evans comes highly recommended so hopefully you will not have to wait to long to book the DIEP surgery. Also, ask to be put on the cancellation list for your consult appointment and maybe you can get in sooner.
Regards,
Chalex

I can't really answer your question Diane31, but just wanted to say that I have a consultation with Dr. Evans in Aug. I have heard alot of good things about him so I guess it's worth the wait! Good luck!

Hi Maryann77,
Let me know if I can answer any questions you may have about Dr Evans and/or the DIEP reconstruction. I am scheduled for the DIEP procedure on Nov 22.
I am also from London as well. I had treatment at the London Regional Cancer Centre.

Hi, Chalex. I too had my treatments at the Legional Cancer Centre. I had Dr. Logan as my medical oncolgist and Dr. Sexton as my radiation oncologist. Both very good!!!! I guess my main question/concern about DIEP is that I'm a thin person and I was worried about where they could get all the skin and fat from to construct a new breast? When I tell people what I plan on doing, they look at my weird and ask where are they going to get it from? My surgeon who performed my mastetomy, doesn't think that I'm a canidate for implants because I have no extra skin and tissue for them to stretch. Feeling a bit discouraged but keeping my hopes up that Dr. Evans can perform his magic!

Hi Maryann,
I had Dr Potvin for Oncology, Dr D'Souza for Rads. I was a part of Dr Brackstone's (my surgeon) Locally Advanced Breast Cancer research study. I had Rads at the same time as chemo b/f my mastectomy ( part of the study). I am also not a candidate for implants. I have also been told I may not have enough abdomen fat to make the new breast. They can take some muscle from the abdomen if they do not have enough fat.... It is called a TRAM surgery. Are you planning on taking your other breast?
I am going to call Dr E's office to ask about when the next DIEP bookings are b/c I am thinking about postponing it until next spring. It is a 12 hour surgery and you are in hospital for 3-4 days. I am not sure I am mentally ready to do more surgery in Nov. I have 2 active kids and I am not sure that would be good timing. I will let you know what I find out.
Regards,
Chalex

Chalex, yes I've heard about TRAM surgery. but I don't know if I'm willing to get up my abdominal muscles. Because I read that you lose up to 20% of your muscle and you'll never get that tone look again.Oh the choices!!! I don't know about the other breast. If it's going to be difficult to find enough tissue for one then it doesn't look good for the other! Ya, you really have to prepare yourself mentally when you go for surgery. But if I see Dr.Evans in Aug. I'll probably book my surgery whenever there is an opening. I need to get on with this and get back to work. Circumstances are not giving me any choices. I have 2 very busy kids. Hunter 8 and Alyssa 6. Thanks for talking to me about this. It's sounds like we have similiar situations and it's nice to get someone else's input! Hugs

Thanks Maryann. Let me know how the appointment goes in Aug. I will keep you posted on everything more I hear about from Dr E's office. You can always PM me if you want to ask specific questions or just want to chat. I think I am in your age bracket. I just turned 40 and I was diagnosed at 38. My kids are teens 14 and 16.
Take Care,
Chalex

I called Lisa, Dr Evan's secretary. She does the OR booking for Dr Evan's DIEP surgeries. As of yesterday, they are booking into mid-late Feb, 2012. Maryann, I would say you maybe looking around the spring for DIEP surgery if you look about 6-7 months from your Aug appoinment.
Pls keep me posted on how your appointments goes in AUg and Dec.

Chalex
