lago--You post such healthy ideas, then give us the slurpee idea!  My first thought was that thank goodness we don't have a 7-11 in my area.  Then my second thought was I don't even like slurpees.  Way too sweet.  What something free will make you do!  I have a Sonic, Hardees and Krystal within one mile and have never been to them.  All of my friends think I am weird.  There is some kind of Sonic Happy Hour many go to in the pm.  Has anyone invented a vegetarian brownie that has high fiber, low fat and tastes heavenly?  Becky

It is soooo hot and I am so thirsty that I think I am going to go look for a 7-11 and get my free slurpie.....I want a cherry one.  I googled 7-11 and there is one 5.6 miles from here.

Lago, Never had a white castle?!?!   Oh my goodness.

Thought you guys would get a kick out of that. If I'm going to blow calories it is NOT going to be on a slurpee. I rather have Carsons rib tips! I don't remember the last time I had rib tips but they are worse than ribs if you are talking about healthy. When I do order them I don't get the potato. I order either the steamed broccoli, spinach or green beans. Tongue out

once a year I used to have a coke slurpee....was usually a day when I was working outside and was tired...the good thing about slurpees is they have a very small size which is actually enough for me to get my annual slurpee jolly...actually have not had one since '09....actually half a small was enough

but I was a bad bad bad girl last night....my husbands looked at me and said, "you have been working so hard what are you doing"......he looked so disapointed in me....and that is haunting me this morning

lets just say.......I think I ate everything I have been avoiding in one spectaularly unhealthy meal....hell I even bought foreign candy to match what I was watching on tv ....

am having very healthy organic zuchinni frittata and salad for breakfast.....Love.."le pain quotidian"

You should have just looked him right in the eye and said, I am enjoying myself, that's what I am doing.  One thing WW stresses, do not beat yourself when you go off the wagon and it sounds as if you got right back on it today.  I just had a slice of cold pizza,,,,thought it was too hot to eat today and was only going to have popsicles, but guess I thought wrong.  I had a bad CA27.29 and somehow cannot imagine the bone scan and CAT are going to be any better.....so until I find out, even though I am  not planning on dying tomorrow or anything, I just can't make myself be good and am eating what I feel like.  I am still on this hot dog kick for some reason....cannot get the thought of hotdogs out of my mind and will probably have to hit the drive thru at GoldStar or somewhere.  Did you know Kroger sells Nathan's hotdogs cooked and in a bun for 99 cents?  What is wrong with me?....I never even went for hotdogs as a kid....liked burgers better.  I don't want cake or ice cream or chocolate, I want a hotdog with mustard.

I was advised to avoid both sugar substitutes and soy at my breast health center, though I am not up on studies for either. I did notice when I gave up diet soda entirely a few years ago---my sweet tooth definitely waned. There have been several studies recently that have said diet soda works against one in the battle of the bulge. I substituted seltzer with a dash of juice ( pure cherry is good! with  dash of lime...) or an iced tea that I sweeten with regular sugar or honey if I feel the need.

Personally I miss soy. For ten years prior to my surgery I had a primarily soy based diet, hardly ever used regular cow milk. Now I begin to wonder if all that soy hastened things along. In the early 90's docs in my area were advising soy for prevention...

Probably everything in moderation is the way to go: but where is the fun in that!!

Be moderate most of the time; but for goodness sakes, every once and awhile SPLURGE!!!! Life is meant to be enjoyed....and to me that includes an occasional day of eating whatever my heart desires!

ruthbru that day must have been yesterday because I ate stuff I shouldn't have. Too much salt for one. Large bowl of shrimp dumpling soup (with extra Chinese broccoli… so that cancels out the egg roll I ate right?) Some stir fry noodles that has shrimp and roast pork (with veggies so that cancels out too right?). And then a pizza (with mushrooms) for dinner. I put on 4lbs overnight from all that salt. I've already lost about 2 lbs by 1pm.  Tongue out

Yknow...the research on soy seems inconclusive to me. Considering there seems to be some risk with almost every protien...I decided to keep soy in the mix. The nutritionist at my cancer center said 2x a week is fine. I enjoy the break from meat. Maybe I am wrong, but I just cant believe a few edamame or a little tofu is bad for me.

There seems to be soy added to everything, all the little bits add up, I am thinking.  I am reading every ingredient label.  It is hard to find cookies, crackers, salad dressings, canned goods, without soy added. I am going to start baking homemade like the ol' days. I don't think we can modify our intake of soy without trying.  BTW, staying away from the boxed foods etc, is keeping me on my weight loss track.Smile

Today I was reading a magazine at the hospital, the August RedBook and there were all sorts of good recipes in it which had been redone to cut the fat and calories.  One was for a chocolate raspberry cheesecake and other for slaw.  They also had some reduced calorie margarita recipes.   I am going to buy the magazine.

I was reading a magazine at the dentist's office and found this recipe. It sounds easy, delicious and healthy.

    Chicken Salad

    1 cup shredded cooked chicken

    1 tsp slivered almonds

    1 1/2 tablespoons dried cranberries

    1/2 tsp Dijon mustard

1 1/2 tablespoons light vegan mayo

I love those magazine photos of food and great recipes, but i never have all the ingredients.  I am going to have to try harder, because my plan is to start baking and cooking without addatives. I might try that chicken salad tho,  no vegan mayoWinktho

This healthier cookie recipe was in the paper today, for those of us who simply can not give up sweets!

    Carrot Cake Cookies

    1 cup white whole-wheat flour

    1/2 tsp baking soda

    1 1/2 cup rolled oats

    1 tsp cinnamon

    1 tsp dry ginger

    1/4 tsp ground cloves

    1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

    2 egg whites

    3/4 cup dark brown sugar

1/4 cup vegetable or canola oil

    1/4 cup drained crushed pinneapple

    1/2 cup fat-free milk

    2 tsp vanilla extract

    1 cup raisins

    1 cup carrots

    1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Heat oven to 375. Lightly coat 2 large baking sheets with cooking spray.

Combine flour, baking soda, rolled oats, cinnamon, ginger, cloves & nutmeg.

In second bowl, combine egg whites, brown sugar, oil, pinneapple, milk and vanilla.

Add liquid ingredients to the dry and stir to combine. Stir in carrots, raisins and walnuts.

Drop by tablespoon onto cookie sheet, leaving 2 inches between them. Bake 12-15 minutes or until golden brown around the edges & slightly firm to the touch.
