When my mom had her lumpectomy her the results said er+ 80% and pr+ 45%. When the results from her oncotype score came back it said er+ and pr-. It showed a scale and it looked like she missed the cut off for pr+ by one point. Her oncologist said that they go by the lumpectomy not the oncotype to determine er/pr. Has any one else had a descrepincey and what did your oncologist say?

I know there is a difference but I don't understand it. It may not make a difference in treatment options. My biopsy report said ER+ 99%, Oncodx siad ER+ 10.6, on their scale positive was between 6.5 and 12.5. I would think 99% should equate to a number over 12. I was PR+ 90% on biopsy but oncodx said 9.3 with positive being 5.5 to 10 which is closer. The oncotype result is "quantitative" & according to the Genomic health website that is what physicians wanted. Not sure what the pathology lab calls theirs. I guess it's a question to ask along the way, "If my mom were PR- how would this change her treatment options"

I'm perplexed as well.  My path from surgery said 99% ER and 96%PR, but per the Oncotype, my ER is 9.3 (on their positive scale of 6.5 to 12.5) and my PR was 9.7, which is more in line with the path.

I'm late posting to this thread but my IHC staining showed ER+ 95%, PR- (0). Oncotype dx showed ER+ 11.1 and PR+ 8.1...playing phone tag with Genomic but will post what they say.

Just a follow up...spoke with Genomic regarding the difference between IHC staining for ER+/PR+ and their method of gene extraction. They said that differences could be explained by a number of variables, including differences in labs. Apparently, you can get several different IHC results if different labs test for it. The core biopsy IHC staining can be different to a tumour slice. I believe he said that the concordance is about 93% (but don't quote me on that!). The remaining 7% difference can be explained by method and what they measure. IHC measures ER/PR on the outside of the cell while Oncotype gene extraction grinds up the cells and measures ER/PR on the inside of the cells, too. HTH!
