My treatment has moved way fast.  Dx on 6/13/11, saw BS on 6/14, MRI on 6/20 and RO on 6/22.  I wasn't even sure what the RO was going to tell me.  Thought I did a lot of my "homework" already.  Well, she knew WAY more then I ever thought.  Took some background information and then jumped into a family history/genetic consult.  WOW!  In the end I found out about my European background, being on 47, having a 1st cousin with BC and a father with prostate and an uncle with lymphoma (dad passed at 78, uncle passed at 70).  I was blown away by her analysis of my information/input.

She gave me the BRCA test that was applicable to me.  She told me it was good I was thinking of putting off the surgery until after my vacation at the end of July.  With my dx the way it is (so far), I was hoping to enjoy some family time before I begin to walk down this road where the treatment /meds can be 5 years.  She said the results will be back in 2 weeks.

What does this all mean???  Is there going to be some magic statistic telling me not to do my lumpectomy??  My tumor is on the left breast 1:00, small and almost under my armpit (still having a lump node concern too and an MRI showed a .7mm possible concern at 3:00), but what do you do with this info?  I thought this was a test to see IF there is a chance you will get BC or to make sure your children and family know there is a genetic propensity.  Would a positive result change my treatment.  I know the doctor talked some stats, but she was more about let's find out first, then we can go over the results.  I HATE NOT KNOWING!  Any thoughts?

Thanks for listening.
