Is my period trying to come back?
Well low and behold, I think my period is trying to come back. I am a bit surprised as I am 45. But before I call my gynecologist, I want to know if anyone else has experienced these symptoms. Some may find them gross so don't read further if you can't handle gross.
Normally right before my period I would get a "Gush" of clear fluid. The next day I would always start menstruation. Well I had this, but no menstruation the next day, and I continue to have it but no menstruation....Also I have the headache I always, always got with menstruation but no menstruation here....And I have not had a hot flash in the last two weeks, since the almost menstruation began.I also feel tired as I do when I menstruate. Sooo....just wondering if others have these bizarre symptoms of your period with no period. I took a pregnancy test so that's not it (thank the Lord above)...
I will call my gyno if my body is still doing this next week. I have also heard there are some herbs I can take to help menstruation. I am CERTAIN this is what is happening here.
When I had a pelvic ultrasound a few months back, they said my ovaries had not been fried during chemo, that they were still healthy and I was still ovulating. I couldn't believe it....
And the last thing I have noticed is my skin, it is returning to its less wrinkly self.....
But I am not happy with the almost period and want the actual period so I was just wondering if others have had these symptoms....

Hi Kathleen,
I had about 1 year of chemo menopause as of the last round of my high dose FEC-T 100 back at the end of 2007. The oncs all said it was very unlikely that the periods would come back as I was 40 at end of chemo. Well, they came back, soon regular as clock work, now in the last 6 months they are unpredictable, all or nothing. Get very tired etc as if about to have one, then nothing, or the oposite.
I would look into it, get a blood test, and thyroid test for starters, with your hormone levels (what ever the basics are for this stuff). It's always good to know, cause i firmly beleive that it's best to be aware of what is going on, so you can feel your best and act on anything that could do with some attention.
Sure more insight will follow, all the best !

About 4 months after chemo I started getting some cramps off and on, but no period. I felt more like the old me, felt sexier, more energy...but no period. 5 months out the same thing (always got crampy during ovulation), but this time I got my period 2 weeks later. I would say..keep aware and use birth control

Thanks, was hoping for more replies. I am going to give it one more week and then I will make an appointment with my gynocologist. I had some bleeding issues early on in treatment (had a period that lasted two months), I had a pelvic ultrasound at this time that showed some thickening but at the end of chemo all was cleared up aside from the technician telling me I was still ovulating. This ultrasound was about three months ago. I mentioned the wrinkles were gone and this is funny because I got carded today at the liquor store! I am 45! While on chemo, someone once asked me if I was retired. Another time, I was asked if I had asked about the senior discount while shopping!!!

I finished chemo in nov. Last month I started have some very light bleeding which I thought was my period but it never got going. This month I had more bleeding, but still very light. It was enough that I did use tampons for about 4 days. I have had for the last few months my PMS symptoms of itchiness and sore breasts. I will am curious to se if it happens again in a way that suggests a period. I am 40. I kept my period thru 2 tx in chemo before it stopped. Never had hot flashes or any other symptoms of menopause.

I went 8 months in chemopause. My period came back last January and has been regular every month since. I still have the hot flashes and terrible night sweats thanks to tamoxifen, but it's better than it was. Good luck!!

I finished chemo in January of this year, and have not had a period since November 2010. In the past three weeks i have had the EXACT same thing. My hot flashes have completely stopped, I have been feeling very pre-menstrual, and I have had some light spotting. I have had a lot of pressure in my perineum too. I am going in for my Herceptin this Thursday so will check in with my oncologist. I am on Tamoxifen so I worry about uterine changes with that as they can be rapid and significant. I will let you know if I learn anything of interest at my appt on Thurs. Hope you are feeling OK today.

Feel good, still having it but not soo bad. Also finished chemo in January and haven't had a period since November 2010. Not on tamoxifen though. I think my body is trying to get back to normal. I have my next Herceptin this Friday so I will also ask my oncologist. Thanks for your response!
