Formaldehyde and Brazilian Blowout

I recently finished treatment for triple negative breast cancer.  I do not fit the profile of a typical triple negative patient and there is no cancer in my family.  I started having Brazilian Blowouts two years before I was diagnosed.  I just read that there is formaldehyde in the formula.  Anyone else with triple negative exposed to formaldehyde?

Sorry to post here on your TN thread, but I just wanted to say that many newer forumlas don't have formaldehyde in them.   The spa at the resort where I work doesn't have it in theirs, I think it's called Kerafusion (by Kerastase)...there are others..

Interesting post, Mary.  I'm not TN either, and I've never had a Brazilian Blowout, although it sounds appealing.  But I just wanted to add that I recently heard docs on NYU's Doctor Radio (a Sirius XM station) talking about these products, and they were sounding the alarm about how much formaldehyde is in them, and that one product in particular (sorry, I don't recall the exact name, but it sounded like Keratin or Kerateen or Kera-something) was extremely dangerous for that reason.    Deanna

PS ~ Just an after thought... I wonder if formaldehyde is also present in other hair straightening products that have been around much longer?

Even if the ingredients don't list formaldehyde, there is a chemical reaction with the heat of the flat iron that creates it and it is of concern. I do no do straightening treatments but my friend does and she went round and round with the company to make sure it is safe, I am not sure which one she is using (chemobrain me) but I don't like all that steam that rises and is going right into the stylist lungs and the client. I think the stylist is at much more risk because of how often they are exposed.

Does formaldehyde cause breast cancer? I have probably worked around so many chemicals that cause cancer plus I have the BRCA 1 gene, I was doomed from the start!

Always wanted one, but my focus has changed as of lately. My co-worker gets them and her hair looks great all the time.
