Custom Glove

Went to my LE doctor yesterday.  She wants me to have custom glove with finger stubs because I have the smallest ready-made size and the stubs ride up (or is it down).  Before I put out all this money, I'd like to know who makes the softest.  I have great troubles with my web and I figure soft is the key.  What say you.  My doctor said if it fits properly I shouldn't have this problem.  Do I need two?  One to wash, one to wear.  I'm using Juzo ready made now.

Kane, I have custom Juzo gloves and like them. I use off the shelf medi 95 gloves at times, and find them soft. My custom gloves have a long cuff--the go pretty far up my forearm, and cover all the areas I swell. My fitter worked hard--there were 5 re-do's on the first one, and she just got me a new custom glove and it's great, so we ordered a second one, and it's great too.

I have had a number of different custom gloves. Here are my impressions



Jobst elvarex -- the fabric is really rough and it pills and gets mangey looking, but. It did seem to do a reasonable job compressing. If you have delicate skin, I wouldn't recommend it. A comment - it seemed like the fingers of this glove shrunk in length



Mediven - the material is smoother than the elvarex, and it doesn't pill, but the fabric is very thick and I found it difficult to move my fingers. Over the course of a couple of months, I lost a lot of strength in my pinky. My physiatrist said my muscles had atrophied some like I had been wearing a cast. (note: I have neuropathy and the glove had closed finger tips, so the stiffness problem might not be a problem for most people.)





Barton-Carey. The person who fitted me suggested this brand because the fabric is silky like a slip. They will also line the gloves. That said, the gloves have many more seams than the mediven or elvarex gloves, and the seams themselves are potentially irritating. Last, at least one person said that, in her experience she found that the BC didn't do a great job compressing and that it was not that much better than an isotonic glove. It may or not be related, but I had a bad hand flare during the period I wore the BC and non-custom farrow.



Juzo custom. I just got a juzo custom glove. I haven't had it long enough to say how effective it is, but the fabric is smoother and less abrasive than the elvarex, and not quite as stiff as the mediven (espirit). I believe that Kira also has tried many gloves and has a custom juzo, so maybe she can give her impressions. KS1

Kane - Have you tried the Farrow micro-fiber glove?  Smooth and soft, fabric not as sheer as Barton Carey, far less bulky than Medi & Juzo. There was a long thread about it quite a while back. You might give it a try before going the custom route.  Returnable from BrightLifeDirect.  (I found Nancy very helpful.)
