    Hi ladies,

my naturopath suggested that I take 1  ginseng panax pill twice a day during taxotrel treatments. He say that this supplement will help to keep my white blood cells counts up. I've read about ginseng panax side affects and there are a few that worries me. Is anybody on that forum takes this supplement? Does it work for you? Are you having any side affects? THanks!

Somnia, I wish I could take ginseng but it is estrogenic and from what I have researched is not compatible with ER+PR+ breast cancer, also strong interaction with Tamox

"Ginsenosides are phytoestrogens found in ginseng that may be expected to have effects similar to those of soy phytoestrogens"

"Ginseng extracts are able to stimulate the growth of estrogen receptor (ER)-positive cells (12). Ginsenoside-Rg1 and -Rh1 have been shown to contain estrogen-like activity"

    http://jcem.endojournals.org/content/89/7/3510.full

"Phytoestrogens may serve as chemopreventive agents while at the same time being capable of promoting growth in estrogen receptor positive cancer cell lines. Furthermore, they may exert their estrogenic influence through receptor-dependent and/or receptor-independent mechanisms. These findings have led to speculation that phytoestrogen intake might be ill advised for patients at an increased risk for hormone-dependent cancers, cancer patients, or cancer survivors.

"Ginseng + Tamoxifen and other oestrogen antagonists

Ginseng may contain oestrogenic compounds that might directly stimulate breast cancer growth and oppose the actions of competitive oestrogen receptor antagonists such as tamoxifen"

    Luan,

thanks for such useful info! I am also stage 3a ER+/PR+. Now I know that I was right to be worried about this ginseng :( Are there any supplements you're taking during tamoxifen treatments? I am currently going through FEC. My supplements are vitamin D, vitamin B6, AHCC.

Hi Somnia, I basically take in a.m. a multi-vit with the minerals, two baby aspirins, Omega 3 fish oil from sardines and anchovies, probiotics, fenugreek extract often on and silymarin often on and before bed calcium/magnesium combo at the same time as Vit D and another Omega 3 cap and the old nasty Tamox after dinner.. Hope this helps Wink

My holistic dr. had me on resveritrol (? Spelling) its made from grapes . Googled it and found its contraindicated in ER + bc.

I think he maybe just pulled his list for me from the latest md journal

    Better off without him
