Ooph in the morning

I'm having my ooph bright and early in the morning.  It's the last thing in my tx plan so I should be throwing a party but I am dreading it.  I guess it's because I feel good and just don't want to have something done that's going to bring me down, even if only for a few days.  Atleast this means no more lupron injections

Good luck! It's not so bad. I had my ooph at around 7am and literally walked out of the hospital by noon the same day. I was a bit sore on day 1 but up and walking the next day. Twelve days after my ooph, I hiked the highest peak in the city of San Diego.

In case no one told you, take something like sweat pants with you to wear home. You also may have some slight bleeding for a few days, so you might want to have some pantyliners on hand.

Don't worry, you won't be "down" for long. Congrats on reaching the end of your treatment plan!

Jenny.... I had my ooph 4 1/2 years ago....the biggest thing I remember was fatigue...but I had mine aboaut 6 weeks post rads....I wasn't too sore.....I had my surgery on a Thursday and took the following week off work....Wishing you an easy recovery

I had my ooph in  july last year, very little pain. You will be fine and you will have a wonderful peace too!!! You are in my prayers, keep us posted

Jenny, This one is easy..Recovery-the surgery itself is all easy.. I liked having mine out b-c I was less hormonal and more even.  It's hard to explain and if you read my posts you might not agree:) lol.. But truely I know it was a sart move on my part.

Yes, it is super easy. Well, compared to everything else, anyhow! 

My biggest problem was the gas and bloating, I found it hard to wear normal clothes for a while. But other than that, you should be fine.

Thanks everyone for the prayers and advice.  It went well and the dr said everything looked normal, should have path report in a few days.  I hope it does help with the hormones levels as well as cutting the recurrance, I'm glad it's over with.  Hugs to you all.

Glad to hear everything went well.  I had to wait a week to get my path report but by the time the surgeon called me I'd honestly forgot about it!  I was already sure in my own mind that everything was OK and that this was just preventive because of the BRCA.  I was right.  I'm wanting that to be the same for you!

I'm glad it went smoothly for you.  I can certainly understand not wanting another surgery, but it is the fastest way to drop your estrogen levels. I wish I had bookmarked a page that showed how estrogren levels decline slowly over time with menopause (chemo induced or otherwise) but it  is a sharp plummet with the ooph. It made me so gratefuI to have the operation.

jennyboog, mine went smoothly today too.  Thanks for posting this.  Its what is so great about this site. I was so nervous and couldn't sleep last night. and came across this and felt so very reassured.

@clariceak....thanks for posting it makes me feel better knowing it's that big of a difference, i was on lupron and thought that was doing the trick but i guess it's not the same and no reaccurance is what it's all about.

@kmmd.....glad to hear your's went smoothly today, i slept most of yesterday after they gave me something for pain and today I'm just a little sore but nothing a motrin800 won't take care of.  i love this site too...full of info and understanding!

Sorry to be dumb here, but I'm new...what is an ooph? An oopherectomy to remove ovaries?  Do they do that routinely where you guys are? I've asked here, but they say there is no definitive correlation between hormone positive and ovarian c yet...

Yes, ooph is the abbeviation for removing your ovaries and they do them routinely here.  Because I was ER/PR + and because I'm BRCA1+ (40% chance of ovarian cancer) it was the recommended thing to do.  I am also on an AI (aromasin) for any other ER floating around.  What do they do to surpress your ER/PR if they don't do a ooph?  Lupron? AI meds?  Just curious.

Do they ever recommend full hysterectomy? I am triple negative and brca1 positive. I will have my ovaries out, but I really don't want to go through the surgery of a hysterectomy, but will If I have to. I had a vaginal ultasound at diagnoses of bc and ec=verything looked good, so hoping for ooph and the the full hysterectomy.

My surgeon recommended a full hysterectomy and I declined.  Although I do have a family history of ovarian cancer, I believe it is my breast cancer that is most likely to kill me and I wanted my estrogen levels down as quickly as possible.

I know it sounds silly but I would love to have all my excess stomach fat sucked out as well.  Bye bye estrogren!

Truthfully, I have such bad fibroids, and being on Tamox right now (although part of the reason for surgery besides the ovarian cancer risk was so they could switch me to an AI)  many would think I was nuts for just doing the BSO.  My gynecologist was okay with it.  She thought it was reasonable to do a TAH-BSO, but was okay with just the BSO.  She said that what they do for the BSO doesn't leave scarring or problems that make it harder to go back if I ever need to complete the TAH part. There is the uterine cancer, fibroids, hoping to never do another surgery part of things.  I was worried about effects on sexual function.  I know it isn't supposed to, but, I shared the same worries of some other women on the thread that it could possibly change orgasm feelings.  Sex is a great part of my life with DH, big motivator for me.  I also worried about pelvic floor issues, bowel does move down and fill the space where the uterus used to be. I just didn't like the sound of that much getting changed around.  Really gets into another one of those grey areas we deal so much with in breast cancer, one of those hard personal decisions.  Being able to talk to other women going through the same thing on these boards has been invaluable to me. My docs are great, I rely heavily on their advice and recommendations, but, nothing can replace the emotional aspects of thinking through these things with this wonderful group of women

I kind of wanted the full hysterectomy, I figured why you're down there go ahead but my gyno. said he didn't see the purpose.  Removing the uterus could cause my bladder to drop, removing the cervix effects orgasms (you don't have contractions anymore).  There was something that come up about colon cancer gene and it linked to uterine cancer, there is a test that was not done b/c he didn't think I had it, the chances of having it and BRCA are very rare according to him.  In the end I went with what he recommended even though he said he would do a full hysto. if I really wanted it.  He spit out a lot of number and stats and said if I was his wife this is what he'd want done so that's what I did.  Thanks for the prayers and well wishes.  It really has been a simple recovery, just a little sore.

Jenny, so glad it all went well for you! Sorry I jumped in are your thread, but I learned alot and now know what questions to ask. I really do just want an ooph, but seems like they always want to do opposite of what I want, but as of now it hasn't been discussed much, it will be in the future though. Thank you for sharing your info!
